In an interview with the Deseret News in Salt Lake City, Dave Checketts re-affirmed his desire to try to purchase the Rams. “It would be a great next step, it really would,” he told the paper.

Checketts first told Bernie Miklasz of the Post-Dispatch last week that he would like to put together a group of investors to purchase the controlling share of the Rams from majority owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez, who are selling their 60 percent of the team.

The article says he got an MLS soccer stadium built against opposition. Maybe his next trick will be getting a real stadium built in the St. Louis area. His seems to have a habit of getting the improbable done.

Living in Utah I’ve seen what Dave can do… He was President of the Utah Jazz for some time. Yes, Dave did get a MLS stadium built just a few miles away. To this day I’m not sure how he got it done. He threw his weight around a bit, threatened to pull the team from Utah. The city voted the stadium down and then boom the next thing you know trucks were moving dirt… Again not sure how it happened, whether he fronted it or what, but the taxpayers voted the stadium down. In the END I want an owner that WINS! Tha’s ALL that matters…winning Championships!!!

LA RAMS!!

Hey Peter,
Why did they leave in the first place? City would not build them a new stadium? St Louis did? Was it maybe fan support?? Why would any team want to leave the 2nd largest TV market in the Unites States?? To much competition for the venues available?? Raiders, Bruins, Trojans, Rams, Monster Truck Shows…… I hear a guy is building a beautiful new stadium somewhere close to LA…. If he is so interested in getting a football team to LA, then why isn’t his name in the news as a candidate to buy the team. I am wishing Mr. Checketts the best, I hope he can get it done. Me personally, I have been a fan since 65` and I don’t really care where they play…GO RAMS!!!

I have a lot of confidence that Checketts will get this done because Chip and Lucia know Dave and want the team to stay in St. Louis. As far as you California fans go, dream for another team to come your way. The Rams will not be coming. Who would want to go the most taxed and economic depressed place in the USA?? Fan turn out wasn’t good when the Rams left in 1994 and there is no reason to believe it will be any better now and most likely worse. Dream on LA fans dream on, the Rams are here to stay in the Mid West!!!!!!!

The reason they moved to St. Louis is that Georgia was a wack job. Maybe a nice lady but telling fans she wanted Nolan Cromwell to run the wishbone, kicking field goals in high heels and posing for a Sports Illustrated cover doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the owner. Chip is biased and it’s understandable but she was the female Mark Cuban. The fact that she basically stole the team from Steve Rosenbloom didn’t help her image or the teams either. Neither did playing in a stadium (The Big A) where half the seats were end zone seats. I also challenge Bill Coats assertion that So Cal wouldn’t welcome the team back or get excited in any way. That’s crap. Build a decent stadium with good sight lines and work to put a good product on the field and L.A. will put enough butts in the seats to make an owner happy.

Dave Chcketts is the type of sports owner ANY city would want. He has done a great job to date with the Blues in that you can see progress each year and you can see where the team is going. He brought in good people, like John Davidson, he has openly admitted when mistakes were made, he connects with the fans. He has been a man of his word, no BS, and he wants to win!

It’s a shame the shiny folks in L.A. proved not once, but TWICE, that they are the worst fans in football and unwilling to support an NFL team. Only an idiot would think the Rams are moving back there.

It’s been said before but I will say it again. The Chrysler plant sites would make a great, easy access location for an open air stadium!

The easy access to that location makes it very attractive and it would be an easy commute from all compass points.

Let’s go Dave!!! Make it happen!

During this next season I say we all commit to doing a “ST.LOUIS RAMS” cheer during every home game just to stick it too the LA quackbags.

The P-D continues its blatent liberal bias by not even mentioning Rush Limbaugh is interested in putting up some $$$$$$$ for the team here. Rush speaks the truth and puts his money where his mouth his. Who cares what Faulk says about Rush if the team stays here! While all the other media outlets report about Rush the P-D ignores it. Good job putting yourself out of the paper business.

Comparing Georgia with Mark Cuban is like comparing Sarah Palin with Bill Gates. They have nothing in common. I would love to have an owner like Cuban who is a self made billionaire, has a passion for life, and wants his team to win. In another comment blog, Bildeaux had a great analysis of Georgia and why she is so loathed in SoCal, so I don’t have to go into that. All I know is that Chip has never done anything in his life worthy of owning an NFL franchise - he doesn’t even follow football. I am hoping the new owner works a deal with Ed Roski to play in the new stadium he’s building in LA…and they bring back the beautiful gold and blue uniforms.

Go New Owners!!! all the way to LA…

Just a few seasons removed from being a playoff contender, the StL fans have given up on the team. Did you know StL was 3rd-to-last in home attendance last year? If the KC Chef fans still come out every Sunday (they were actually FOURTH OVERALL in attendance–and they STUNK), why can’t we? And should I even mention the sorry Cubs? No matter HOW BAD of a season they’re having, Wrigley is always packed with rabid Cubs fans (Wrigley, not one of the top tier stadiums in baseball). Fans aren’t ignoring the Rams in StL b/c of stadium issues…or cost per ticket issues…or whether they stink issues… fact is, StL is not a football town. If StL wants to keep the Rams, fans have to be FANS and stop justifying their non-support by blaming “the product on the field”. If you’re not showing up to support our team b/c you don’t want to pay to see them lose, then you’re not a fan. Period. Maybe we should stick to baseball. It is becoming evident that StL is a football town ONLY when things are going good…when things get bad? Forget it. I’m not sure if the Rams are moving to LA…but they’ll move for sure if fair weather fans don’t get off the fence.

Well, gee Checketts baby, I’m “interested” in buying the Rams too.

The Checkeets proud declaration to form a investment group may get him some bragging moments in his home town and a few reporters, but that may fit a lot of “interested” “wantabee owners” of the Rams.

The real question is can they actually form a sufficient money group to change the Ram world n STL?

His statement that he would “like” to put an investment group together to raise the money to carryout a business plan that can fund the deal, is a classic admission he himself is not able to persue buying the Ram franchise opportunity on his own, thus the stated proffers to moneyed investors to buy shares. Usually, the General Partner is the only one liable for the business oprational activity of the LP. That should make him a bit careful.

If, in the NFL’s opinion, the investor group business plan was too thin with available funds, they could say no thanks. Same goes for the Ram team earnings projection, from a lower one third in the NFL, to an upper third?.

There you go…you too can form an LP and buy the Rams, with performance conditions.

In truth, I want the Rams to stay in STL, because if the team was purchased by LA Roski, etc. (and he can personally qualify on all fronts) and moved to east LA, a huge distance from downtown LA, the NFL would blackout the local coverage and then I would need to drive a good distance, buy several small $10 beers, $8 hotdogs, $29 parking (maybe $35), a $50 seat and a long drive home.

So if the Rams stay in STL or anywhere but Californaia then I could get up late, hit the beer store, buy weiners and buns, chips all for about 20% of the actuall game cost, then prop my feet up and punch the remote for the Rams game. You think I’m that stupid to want the Rams to come to LA?

I will be glad to help Checkeets anyway I can, mostly by fanning the flames for a move to LA, which should help get all the local “interested” off their butts and find a way to keep the Rams where they are. I don’t even want them to move anywhere.

Either there’s a failure to communicate or either Chip or the NFL doesn’t believe Checkers has the bona fides to get the deal done. Why would he have to repeat his desires?

R.I.P. LA Rams 1994

Not enough things to do during the summer in Southern Cal than post on a St. Louis based forum??

— Tim Chase
5:12 pm June 11th, 2009

Why all the hate on Cali, Timmie? I hear the Lakers are in the finals tonight (that’s basketball for those scoring at home). Lots of Rams fans out there from Cali through NYC and as long as Rush Limbough doesn’t buy the team, I”ll be very happy. The beauty of St. Louis football is that you got rid of the Cardinals and got a MAJOR UPGRADE in the Rams. I mean, the football Cardinals are possibly the worse team in history–and that’s including this year’s superbowl birth. You in St Louis got to dump the ugly chick for a hot one. LA just got dumped…so don’t be so quick to hate, everyone is dancing with the same girl!

la rams. they left the first time because that idiot georgia and shaw ran the team into the ground on purpose. bring the rams back with new owners

— jay
5:58 pm June 11th, 2009

I do not know myself if the Rams will stay in St Louis or not. But just for the record it wasn’t lack of fan support that caused them to leave LA it was the fact that the team was being destroyed by an owner not willing to pay the players hence why the Rams are now not winning games. Hoever with the new front office and new coaching staff I believe they are on their way.
I would suggest Checketts get his group together fast as I am not sure how long Chip and Lucia will wait. Like it or not guys Roski is a player in this and could make a bid real soon. Chip and Lucia didn’t hire that big group for window decorations they hired them to find a buyer local or otherwise. I do not think Chip and Lucia want to be owners of the Rams come the 2010 season.
We can all specualte all we want but as of right now anything is possible.

Say “no” to Checkets. Here’s why. Lets start with his soccer team first before we go to the bigger mess which is known as the NY Knicks. And I appreciate you wanting to keep a team in St.Louis, really. But here is the record of his Real soccer team the last 5yrs. (starting with this year) 3-6-2, 10-10-10, 6-15-9, 10-13-9, 5-22-5. Not to mention they have not won a road game this year. And, his threat to sell the soccer team if a stadium was not built for him here in Salt Lake (it was), or his retraction to build a community soccer center that he backed out of since he was not allowed some licening rights and parking concessions to make money off of the city that built him a stadium. What a guy!
The Knicks are way worse off due to his management when he was there, and he even uncerimoniously through the general manager under the bus when he fired him. He should have stepped up to the plate like a man and took the blame. Let me ask you, where are the Knicks now?
Ive been a rams fan since 76 when I went to my first game at the Coliseum and Checkets is not anywhere on my list. Trust me on this. I live in Salt Lake an have seen his work firsthand.
Really, the commish should move the Cardinals back to St Louis and give Phx a new team, or the Rams. Then move the Rams back to LA where the belong.
More importantly, GO RAMS!

Living in L.A. from 1954 to 1961, as a season ticket holder, moving to Northern California did not change my loyalty to the Rams, even after they moved to St. Louis. I go to see the Rams now when they come to play the 49rs. I might even go to Seattle or Phoenix, if the Rams can field a decent team in the near future. I would travel to L.A. to see them selectively. That being said, I have no confidence they will ever return to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles and California are in bad financial straits and will be so for a long time. The multi-ethnic base in L.A. now identifies with and supports the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, Trojans and Bruins, and many other sports venues of lesser popularity. With a competitive team, the Rams would be able to attract much more TV exposure in the L.A. Market. There is still enough residual Ram loyalty there for the TV networks to capitalize on.
The Rams moving back to L.A. just makes no sense at all. The politics and the economics present too great a barrier.

What is the current ownership and coaching staff doing to connect with the fans? By comparison, what are the NFL’s 5 best and 5 worst teams doing, in the off-season, to connect with the fans? Does the current ownership really care about St. Louis?

I remain a die-hard Rams fan, and have since 1948. Sell “our” Rams to an owner who “speaks” football. Present ownership’s resolve to perfection is doubtful given its huge contract re-newal for Mark “ho hum, don’t hurt me” Bulger. If we have a winning season, it will be in spite of Mark, if we have a losing season, it will be because of Mark. Yes, I know he’s a nice guy, but so was Pat Haden and Tony Banks. Go Rams….Jim Conner
