St. Louis Rams T Goldberg doesn’t mind “holding space” for rookie Smith

Adam Goldberg is in a bit of an unusual situation. All spring, during the minicamps and the OTAs, he’s been the first-team right tackle. But everyone knows that the Rams expect first-round draft pick Jason Smith to be in that spot come the start of the regular season.

A less-experienced, less-philosophical player might resent “holding space” for a rookie. But not Goldberg, a seventh-year pro.

“I look at is as, I’ve got to go out every day and make myself as good as I can make myself. All those other decisions about who plays where and when are out of my control,” he said. “Wherever they say I’m playing that day, I do my best to help our offense execute and move the football and score points. If that’s at right tackle, great. If that’s at punter or tight end, I don’t care. Just let me contribute to our team’s success. That’s what I can control, so that’s what I’ll worry about.”

The second day of the three-day minicamp is under way at Rams Park. Two practices today, one tomorrow, and then OTAs resume next week.

All for now . . .

Baloney. Name one NFL player that just wants to sit on the bench. Name one player that wants to go from starter to bench warmer, especially so a rookie can take his place. The title of this article and Goldberg’s comments don’t match. He says he wants to “contribute”. He does not mention holding space.

All for now… ?!?!?!

Come on PD, we want more! What else is happening at the OTAs? I agree with that dude in Seattle, while I’m sure the quotes are accurate, you know Goldberg doesn’t like being a place keeper for J. Smith. The man wants to start, and I’m sure he’s going to work his butt off for every opportunity. Mr. Coats, jeesh dude, your a writer for a living.. give us more information about whats happening at Rams park. Please!

Sean and Seattle, Bill isn’t holding out on you. He’s giving info as he gets it. Spags doesn’t want the world knowing what he’s doing. If he gets more out of these guys and they win more game then I can deal with the lack of info. Martz, Linehan, and Haslett were all media friendly and look where it got them (aside from performance). Belle-cheat never gives out info to the press and his team always wins 10+ games. If you want a soap opera theres alway General Hospital to watch.

Vick deserves a second chance just like any quaterback that made mistakes in the league and I think he’ll be a good pick for the Rams that needs a good quaterback. Ive been a rams fan since 1970 and its time to let the bad go and look at the good. If your a real Ram fan you should know that we need a good back up quaterback and a good receiver. Plaxico has also been in trouble with the law but talent overrides any bad, and right now the way we been playin we need the whole team from the Longest Yard movie. So Rams pick up Vick and Plaxico and f$#k what everyone else says we tryin to get to the Super Bowl!!!!!
