Rookie head coach Steve Spagnuolo didn’t sleep well Thursday night, as thoughts of his first full-squad practice at his first St. Louis Rams training camp danced in his head. “You remember when we were little and it was Christmas (Eve), and you’re waking up every hour,” he said. “Honestly, that’s about what it was like.”

All 80 roster members were on hand at Rams Park on Friday afternoon, including first-round draft pick Jason Smith, the tackle from Baylor who signed his contract late Thursday. Spagnuolo directed a quick-paced, 85-minute workout and reported no injuries of significance afterward.

Notes & quotes:

*G John Greco was on the field but didn’t participate. He suffered cramps after a team conditioning run Friday morning. Greco is expected to practice Saturday.

*Team owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez watched practice from the sidelines.

*For some reason, the Rams did their pre-practice stretching on the new AstroTurf field, about 150 yards from the fans that showed up the watch the workout. Later, they drilled on the two grass fields closer to the spectators.

*Smith and LB James Laurinaitis, the club’s second-round draftee, remained with the second units.

*Kenneth Darby worked with the second unit at RB.

*Larry Grant was at strongside linebacker with the No. 1 defense. Chris Draft was in the middle and Will Witherspoon at weakside.

*Former Rams running back Tony Fisher is with the team in camp as a coach-in-training.

*Josh Brown is the lone kicker and Donnie Jones the only punter in camp. “When the NFL decided to change the rule and limit it to 80, one person actually makes a big difference,” Spagnuolo said. But he also indicated that if he thought either player was getting over-worked, he’d bring in a camp leg.

*Veteran WR Ronald Curry did some punt-return work, too.

All for now . . .

Will the Rams be in St. Louis after the 2014 season? I sure hope Kroenke or Checketts, can buy the Rams and solve this major question mark!
