Little suits up for afternoon practice; injury appears to be minor
Not only was St. Louis Rams defensive end Leonard Little in uniform and back on the practice field this afternoon, he got in some limited work just a few hours after giving the team a big scare.
Little hurt his right knee in the morning practice, and he flung his helmet to the ground and kicked a down marker in frustration. Though he tried to rejoin the action, Little wound up sitting out the rest of the workout, his knee wrapped in ice.
But fears of a serious problem apparently were unfounded. Rams officials this afternoon termed the injury a sprain and said Little would be day-to-day.
With Little out, Chris Long moved to the left side from right end, and James Hall took over at right end. Also, Victor Adeyanju got some reps at left end, Little’s usual spot.
Notes & quotes:
*WR Nate Jones, fighting for a roster spot, made a spectacular one-handed catch on a sideline route, then a few minutes later laid out for a reception in the end zone.
*The team was in full pads in the morning, but there was no live tackling.
*DE Adam Carriker graduated to limited reps in team sessions and appears to be close to returning from the sprained ankle he suffered Aug. 7.
*WRs Donnie Avery (foot) and Tim Carter (groin) were fully padded and participated in individual drills. They were held out of team work.
*QB Marc Bulger (finger), G Jacob Bell (concussion) and RB Kenneth Darby (knee) conditioned on the sideline under the direction of strength coach Rock Gullickson.
*Coach Steve Spagnuolo said he hasn’t decided yet whether to place rookie WR Brooks Foster on injured reserve. Foster had ankle surgery Friday and is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks.
*A total of 10,400 spectators attended the open practices during training camp.
*Adeyanju and rookie T Phil Trautwein scuffled after going head-to-head in one-on-one drills. Among those breaking up the tiff was Bell.
All for now . . .
