Rams CB Tye Hill leaves practice with swollen knee

Cornerback Tye Hill hobbled to the sidelines midway through Tuesday morning’s practice at Rams Park, and subsequently had his right knee wrapped. Justin King and Quincy Butler took over Hill’s reps with the first unit for the rest of practice.

It’s the same knee that needed surgery last season and sidelined Hill for most of the 2008 campaign. Obviously, a healthy and resurgent Hill is one of the keys to improved secondary play by St. Louis this season.  Coach Steve Spagnuolo didn’t sound overly corncerned following the morning workout.

“He’s got a little bit of swelling in that knee,” Spagnuolo said. “He just has to fight through that. Once the swelling goes down, I think he’ll be fine.”

_ Veteran linebacker Chris Draft, who had been working with the starting unit recently at the strongside position, sat out the morning workout after being poked in the throat Monday. It’s thought to be a bruised throat, but Draft was scheduled for additional testing.

_ Defensive tackle Adam Carriker (sprained ankle) sat out the morning session, marking the third straight practice day he has been sidelined

_ Craig Dahl, who was shaping up as the favorite for the No. 4 safety spot before suffering a hamstring injury in Friday’s scrimmage, returned to practice Monday morning, getting limited work.

_ Larry Grant replaced Draft with the starters at strongside linebacker and intercepted a Marc Bulger pass intended for Steven Jackson during a red zone drill.

_ For the second day in a row, running back Antonio Pittman got some reps with the starting unit.

_ The team was in full pads, as usual, Tuesday morning. After a respite from live work Monday, the Rams had one live tackling period Tuesday.

_ In terms of catching passes, wide receiver Derek Stanley had one of his most productive practices of camp Tuesday morning, including a leaping catch over the middle in tight coverage.

Isn’t it increasingly obvious that Tye Hill and Adam Carriker are busts? Just cut bait now.

Agree with you “DAVE”. Hill has not confidence given all the bad plays from last year, and the knee that has never come around. He is toast. Carriker is a bust, was from day one, and will never be able to play Dtackle in a 4-3. Simply plays with too HIGH a pad level, doesn’t have the strength to “man up”. He was a product of the Nebraska weight lifting program, maxed out in college, and only was another example of the BAD player personnel decision of previous regime. Anyone notice the “Big Grease” Pinckett and D.Lewis have really come around in GB and Carolina. Also that Kollar is doing quite well thank you in Houston. All in all, the ineptitude of the Rams organization really is going to bury this franchise in st louis. Only hope is that the economy stays bad so no new ownership group can come in and purchase them for market value. That is sad, it could have been much better. However, given the incredible bad program this franchise had in L.A., why would anyone think that anything would change. Who said ” Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.

Here it goes Coach….. I want to limp off the feild so it doesn’t look so bad when I get cut. I would also like to retract my statement that I intended to be in the Pro bowl within two years, I meant toilet bowl !!

I’m done with Tye Hill. He is a bust. Simple as that. I’ll give Carriker one last shot, but Hill shouldn’t be on the field.

Why is Minnie Linehan still with this team anyways. I predict Spags cuts this little leprechan. He’s fast, I’ll giver him that, but that’s it- he tackles like a girl scout ( what a waste of a pick) Time to stop paying this skirt and obtain the services of a real man !

you guys are a$$h0les i dont think any of u guys no how tough it is to play in the NFL. First of all Carriker is one of are best run stuffers, how is he a bust? he gets hurt alot, yea, that suckssssssss, but hit happens. Tye Hill had a pretty good first years in the league and looked promising, but yea he sucked last year, like played really bad. Hes had a good camp, coming in and working hard, trying to impress the coaches, and u guys make fun of him for having a bad season and for having a bad knee? U guys suck serioulsy

I never understood why coaching staffs and management feel compelled to play 1st rnd picks when its obvious they can’t get the job done. Guys like Bellicheat and Parcells don’t seem to fall into that trap, they only care about performance. I hope this new Ram regime adopts that attitude. Its obvious free agent pick ups Quincy Butler at CB and Gary Gibson at DT are hungrier and more prepared mentaly and physically than Hill and Cariicker.

Jake- Have you watched the Rams the past couple years? Tye Hill was literally the worst starting corner in the league. He has no business on the field, healthy or not. And Carriker has not done anything special either. How can he be one of the best run stuffers on the worst run defense in the game?
