Thursday is the first day of classes in the St. Louis Public Schools system, and Rams staffers, alumni and cheerleaders will be on hand at four high schools — Beaumont, Roosevelt, Sumner and Vashon — to greet students. That’s just part of an initiative that the team has formed with the school district.

The Rams, in partnership with Office Essentials, will donate more than $25,000 in supplies. They also will be handing out 1,000 tickets to Friday night’s preseason game vs. the Falcons at the Edward Jones Dome.

It is part of the club’s monthly “Days of Service” program.

“As part of our commitment to being a great community partner, each month our entire staff will be present in the community demonstrating our support of St. Louis,” Kevin Demoff, the Rams chief operating officer, said in a statement. “With this month’s day of service, we hope, through our partnership with Office Essentials, not only to provide the kids with needed supplies, but also to offer some encouragement as they begin a new school year.

“And while Thursday is a one-day initiative, our organizational commitment to SLPS will continue throughout the year as we build on an already strong partnership.”

Current Rams players and coaches will not be present at the schools, as their training-camp duties continue at Rams Park. Former players who are expected to particpate are Andy McCollum, Aeneas Williams, Grant Williams, Roland Williams and Arlen Harris.

Football is football, but it makes me feel good about the organization when they do things like this around the community. This kinda support from one of biggest local companies (at least in revenue) will go a long way in the SLPS.

As I have said for a while now, The culture is changing at Rams Park right before our eyes. It is only a matter of time before the winning comes.

THE WORLD DOES NOT LIVE BY SPORTS ALONE.

It’s nice to see sports figures be involved, but the St. Louis Public School District doesn’t get it. Sports figures won’t motivate students to improve their math, scienced, language skills.

How about inviting Mr. Johnson, the founder of BET?
How about inviting Condoleeza Rice?
How about inviting Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver (Lacy Clay should take lessons about leadership from Rev. Cleaver)

The leader of the most power country in the free world didn’t get to his position because of sports.

They could invite Judge Autrey or Judge Williams. I went to school with Mr. Autrey, one of the finest leaders I’ve ever seen.

How about Judge Joe Brown. Get real Menza, these kids would not be any more impressed with those people than I am with your self indulgent name.

And read the story, it is the Rams organizational staff, only a few athletics and none are known guys. There is always one idiot (you) who looks at something like this and flips your nose up at a DONATION of money and time. I Think SLPS is happy for all time and supplies donated rather it comes from such a dignitary that you would approve of. Like SLPS can choose who the except donations from. “No sorry, no donation from you, you are not the right kind of person”

Menza you are a joke

Mensa_hater :: None are known players? Are you kidding me? If you haven’t at least heard of Aeneas Williams, you haven’t been around very long.
