Swelling in knee prompts MRI for Rams LT Alex Barron

After sitting out Monday morning’s practice, offensive tackle Alex Barron will undergo an MRI on his knee. According to St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo, Barron has experienced periodic swelling in his knee. But Barron, who has been working at left tackle, hadn’t missed any training camp practice time until now.

“There was a little bit more swelling in his knee,” Spagnuolo said. “He’s kind of been battling that. So we didn’t want to take chances. He’ll have an MRI, hopefully as a precaution.”

With Barron sidelined Monday, Adam Goldberg took the reps with the starting unit at left tackle. Rookie Jason Smith, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, worked with the first-team offense at right tackle.

Meanwhile, Jacob Bell remains sidelined with a concussion. Mark Setterstrom and John Greco alternated reps in Bell’s left guard spot with the starting unit during the full-pad practice at Rams Park.

Looks like it’s time to put our 1st round pick at the position he should be playing!

I wonder if Alex will “jump offsides” before the MRI can get started. The guy needs Ritalin to stay focused. Not impressed with him as a tackle. Maybe he’ll improve this year under Spags.

The worst thing the Rams can do is put Jason Smith over at left tackle. The guy can’t pass block at all. Hopefully he will be able to later in his career, but for right now he needs to stay at right tackle, since his run blocking is much better than pass blocking.

Joey Tits wonders if this recent spate of injuries is connected to the all the physical contact that the players have been exposed to in camp.

Pass blocking on the left side is def different than right side. Smith was a left tackle in college so hes more used to playing that position. When u put him at left tackle again, his pass blocking will hopefully be better than he did on the right side.

I know everyone agrees with me that Alex Barron is a bust. I think it is time to get rid of him. Trade him to the Bengals or something. He is getting paid too much to do nothing every year. When are we going to say enough is enough and use his salary money on wide recievers such as: Ashley Lelie…just got signed, Marvin Harrison, Brandon Marshall????

Hes not a bust just yet. Barron was originally a LT not a RT. Those are two different positions and it shows because Barron’s best season in STL was playing LT when Pace got hurt. Now that Barron is getting a chance to play his original position, he should be better.

No matter if you are on the left or right side, that doesnt effect you from jumping offsides. So you don’t need to be able to pass block on the right side? Now is the time for the other linemen to step and show why they are here…..
