What orginally was believed to be a minor injury has turned into a major problem for the St. Louis Rams. Donnie Avery, the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, will be out at least a month with a foot injury he suffered in Friday night’s scrimmage.

Avery experienced discomfort in his left foot when he woke up Saturday morning, but an X-ray showed no fracture. However, an MRI exam taken after Avery sat out Sunday morning’s practice “showed more than we thought,” coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “It’s probably a four-to-six-week injury.” Spagnuolo declined to comment further.

Avery, the Rams’ second-round draft pick in 2008, had 53 receptions for 674 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season. When Torry Holt was released in the offseason, Avery became the top wideout on the depth chart.

Sunday’s afternoon practice was a special-teams session that lasted just over an hour. It was held at the indoor facility at Rams Park.

All for now . . .

I bet you’re really wishing I was still a Ram right about now!

If you’re going to pretend to be someone at least have the sense to spell his name correctly…Isaac

tough luck on avery. i an always uneasy when the roughhouse scrimmages start. i just expect some player(s) to suffer serious injury. the nature of the beast.

it seems that the teams that go farthest in league play are those able to keep their frontliners from long absences due to injuries. or the luckiest. avery was down from injury for a spell in ‘08. he’s a key to the Rams’ success in ‘09, so it’s to be hoped that he avoids long stays on the sidelines again. was he injury prone at LSU?

Avery went to Houston, not LSU. Let’s sign Burress for an incentive laden contract. Him and Spags have a history right?

What kind or routes could Burris run from a prison cell? If we’re going to pick a criminal get someone who has already served his time. Michael Vick as a wideout?

well, that sucks about Avery. Here’s a neame that hasn’t surfaced in NFL circles in a few months….. MARVIN HARRISON!! He’s a free agent and no one has picked him up!! He could be a positive leader in the locker room and from everything I know about him he fits the bill to be Spags kind of player (as far as the 4 pillars Spags looks for). He might not be what he used to be, but shoot, sign him to a 1 year deal and see what happens. Btw, I was at training camp today and I really believe Spags has something good going here…. it might not mean playoffs this year, but the future could look pretty good.

wow. that sucks. avery has more receptions for the rams than anyone else…all 53 of them…and now he’s out.

only person who is happy is jackson b/c now he’ll be even more of a focus.

this sucks!
