Rams are ready: “They’ve done everything we’ve asked,” Spagnuolo says
Some six months after the start of the offseason conditioning program, the St. Louis Rams have arrived at the cusp of their season-opener. A relatively light 90-minute practice wrapped up on-the-field preparations for Sunday’s clash with the Seahawks in Seattle.
Rookie coach Steve Spagnuolo said his club is ready.
“They’ve done everything we’ve asked with a lot of enthusiasm,” he said. “There’s no guarantee that pays off in wins, but I’ll tell you what, I’d rather go in feeling that way than the other way.”
Spagnuolo stressed that the credit for a strong ramp-up to the season should be shared.
“All the coaches, all the players, the whole organization, everybody in this building I think has prepared really well,” he said. “It’s time to play a game here in 48 hours, and hopefully we’re where we need to be and we can win a football team.”
Notes & quotes:
*S Craig Dahl (hamstring) and G John Greco (wrist) won’t play Sunday. LB Larry Grant (knee), who Spagnuolo ruled out earlier in the week, has made a rapid recovery and is listed as “questionable.”
*QB Marc Bulger took nearly all the first-team snaps and reported no ill effects from his broken right pinky finger. “I asked him how he felt,” Spagnuolo said, “and Marc said, ‘Coach, I’m ready to go.’”
*Here’s a guess at the Rams inactives for Sunday: Dahl, Greco, Grant, G Roger Allen, T Eric Young, S Anthony Smith, DT LaJuan Ramsey and Keith Null (third quarterback).
*The Rams (0-8) haven’t beaten the Seahawks since 2004, when they did so three times — twice in the regular season, and then in the playoffs.
*The Rams haven’t won a season-opener on the road since 2001 (20-17 at Philadelphia).
All for now . . .

LETS GO RAMS
Hopefully, the “we are prepared” will carry over into the game & cause some excitement from the Rams players & bench. If it is reported after the game that Spagnuolo when asked, can’t explain why we came out flat or couldn’t overcome a first quarter interception or fumble, it will prove nothing has changed from the last regime. Hopefully, the different attitude will prevail.
KenK, although I do not agree that after one game we can say nothing has changed (or things HAVE changed, for that fact), but you will never hear Spagz “not be able to explain” something that went wrong. The best example is that after the Falcons pre-season game, he put blame on his and his staffs’ shoulders for not having the team ready. He recognizes problems, and I believe he will fix them as well. We shall see…..
Go Rams!
In refernce to Bernie’s post, the difference between Bulger and Big Ben is mobility.
Ben can move around in the pocket, Bulger can’t, just like Warner before him. This is why they both got beat into the ground under Martz.
I hope they play great and as a lifetime fan (40+ years), my heart wants them to win. That being said, my brain just wants to see competitive improvement in the O & D.
Bad guess on Ramsey. Even as a late addition that Rams need him dressed.
Hang onto your hats Sheepheads!
With a QB who moves around like he is wearing cement shoes, being “Protected” by a rookie who isn’t ready to start and a LT that is nothing better than a backup on a good team.
A long season, Billy D. needs to sign every QB on the waiver wire, three ain’t gonna be enough, this is going to be brutal!
STL is no place for Quarterbacks, don’t blame Bulger or Boller, this is all on Billy D.!
Good Luck Rams,take no prisioners.
Wow…the Rams haven’t played a game this season, and they’re ALREADY 0-8.
I want to believe in this new regime in the worst way. The steady leadership Spags has shown looks like a step in the right direction.
My concern is that given our current personel we didn’t go after more players from the waiver wire. For example, Ian Johnson had an excellent preseason with the Vikes and was a victim of their tremendous depth at running back. He is young and fits our youth movement and looked better in the preseason than any of our backups. WR Charly Martin was released by San Diego, again loaded at the position. He looked great in the preseason and was picked up by Carolina. We have 4 wide receivers and brough back Nate Jones? I don’t want to make this negative. I just hope Billy D and his group are doing their homework and looking at every option to improve this roster! Fingers crossed!
