The St. Louis Rams on Tuesday released WR/KR Derek Stanley to make room on the 53-man roster for another WR/KR — Danny Amendola, who was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad.

General manager Billy Devaney said Amendola is expected to return punts and kickoffs Sunday, when the Rams take on the Packers at the Edward Jones Dome, in what would be his NFL regular-season debut.

“We’re just trying to get some juice in the return game,” Devaney said. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound Amendola, 23, is a Texas Tech product who signed with the Cowboys in 2008 as an undrafted rookie. He spent that season on Dallas’ practice squad, then was signed to Philly’s practice squad in January.

Stanley, a Rams seventh-round draft pick in 2007 out of Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater, averaged 12.3 yards on three punt returns this season. In ‘07 and ‘08, he averaged 9.2 yards on 11 punt returns, 25.1 yards on 45 kickoff returns, and caught six passes for 119 yards and one touchdown.

Also, the Rams didn’t work out any free agents Tuesday.

As a Rams Fan in the Philly, PA area, I have seen Amendola play for the Eagles. He did very well in the pre-season. Granted it was pre-saeson; but Amendola plays with a lot of hustle and is tough for his size. This guy might surprise.

Seriously Chazz, one long catch and he should be given a “feel free to suck” card? I am sure that there will be a long line of teams wanting to sign Stanley. Actually I doubt that anyone will sign a guy that the previous regime drafted.

Bye Stanley, after you hesitated on a kickoff during the skins game and got popped in the head for being hesitant…good riddance…maybe next time you’ll be aggressive and want to play in the NFL !!!! Go Rams Go chazzz

The sifting through available talent (internal and external) continues, trying to find players, and will continue for quiet some time, I would suspect. This will be an ongoing process for awhile, I would think.

You want juice in the return game? Then why cut a good PR? and if you want more juice in kickoff returns, then put Stanley in that role, too. Don’t tell me he’s to blame for returns he never made.

I don’t think Stanley was ever given much of a chance. Look at his stats….9.2 yds on PR and 25.1 on KR ain’t too shabby, folks. Add almost a 20.0 yrd per catch average and 1 TD in only 6 catches….seems to me if he was given the reps he could have produced.

Sorry Derek, another victim of Rams waffling.

this is rediculous, he never got a chance to return kick offs at all. The past two years when he did, he was easily above average. Almost positive his rookie year he was top 10 in average… I don’t get this one at all

Any speed and hustle will do!!! this guy MAY surprise, or he may not…i am for any and all speed, hustle and quickness on this team….this team has energy, but not in all aspects of their game. Maybe the coaches saw something that will enrgize the retun game, hence, energize the offensive unit! i say roll the dice…we’ve been “crapped” on too long!
GO RAMS!!!!!!!!!
