Robinson needs surgery, might be out for the year

While the news on Marc Bulger’s shoulder injury was better than expected (see separate blog), the opposite is the case with Laurent Robinson, the St. Louis Rams most productive wide receiver during their 0-3 start. Robinson will undergo surgery after suffering a lower-leg fracture and a high ankle sprain. Coach Steve Spagnuolo hinted that Robinson’s season might be over.

Robinson, an offseason pickup from Atlanta, had 13 catches for 167 yards, both team highs, and scored the Rams’ touchdown last week at Washington. Spagnuolo indicated that the Rams probably will bring in a wideout to replace Robinson. As of now, they have just four available: Donnie Avery, Keenan Burton, Danny Amendola and Ruvell Martin.

Maybe they can move McMichael in his place. Oh wait, we need someone who can catch the ball. Hmmmm, looks like they’ll be checking the unemployment section this week. Here’s a thought. Maybe Avery could step his game up!

Maybe we could have used Holt this year after all…he’s twice as good at this point in his career than any of the guys we still have. Its gonna be a long first year or Spaggs…in the meantime I’m still holdin my Holt jersey dear!

Wow, I can not believe this. Avery now has to do what is expected of him and catch some long balls. Who will possibly replace Robinson??? maybe Burton but still, we need someone else

Welcome back Mr. Stanley - I wonder who else is out there hidden on some other teams practice squad.

Now would be a great time to bring Usain Bolt into the NFL . . .

Bigger develoement than Bulgers injury. Robinson was easily our second offensive option after Jackson. Devaney will come up with a playmaker again. Please keep Boller in at QB and we can make it happen.

BIGHORN,
Did you watch the 2nd half? Boller’s rating was in the 30’s. He was effective in the first half because he is a different QB then Bulger and took GB by surprise. Then after halftime they made adjustments and he was rather ineffective. Bulger is a much more accurate passer, does that mean better, I don’t know. I would tend to stay with the more accurate passer, but that is just me.

Releasing Holt was shrewd.

“Seriously People”, maybe a change-up is something that this offense needs. I feel pretty confident in saying that the Rams would NOT have scored 17 points or maybe even half that had Bulger stayed in the game. I’m so sick of Bulger apologists harping on his supposed accuracy when the name of the game is scoring points and he hasn’t been able to consistently lead this offense in quite some time. But then that isn’t his fault, is it. It’s the offensive line and the wide receivers and the play calling and the lights are in his eyes and whatever else you people can think of.

Tough loss, at least we know he can play and is a keeper. Now we can find out what else we have at that position; see if Burton and Avery are keepers or if we cut bait at the end of the year with those guys. We’ll also find out what we have in Amendola, Martin and whom ever else we find out there. Imagine if this were Avery instead of Robinson, we wouldn’t know if he was a one-hit wonder or if he will realize his potential, at least with Robinson we know he can play. If Avery and/or Burton don’t step up and make plays now, no need to keep them around.
