Spagnuolo blasts Rams with “Hail to the Redskins”
The players were expecting simulated crowd noise when the loudspeakers were turned on during practice Friday at Rams Park. Instead, they got heavy doses of “Hail to the Redskins,” the annoying Washington fight song. It was coach Steve Spagnuolo’s idea as the Rams prepared for Sunday’s game at FedEx Field.
“I guess I’ll take credit for that one. I did,” he said. “I thought about it. I’ve heard it a lot.”
Spagnuolo went against the Redskins 20 times during his years on the defensive staffs of the Eagles and Giants, fellow NFC East squads.
Notes & quotes:
*Spagnuolo was pleased with how the Rams responded in practice this week after the 28-0 shelling they absorbed in Seattle. “They were really focused today,” he said. “Now, there were mistakes all over the place on Wednesday and Thursday, like there normally are. We’re putting in a new game plan and we’re seeing a new team. But I see a lot of guys out there that care. That’s the beginning part. If you have that, you’ve got a chance.”
*S Craig Dahl (hamstring) and G John Greco (wrist) won’t make the trip to D.C. Both could be back next week.
*Newcomer Leger Douzable, a 6-4, 305-pound defensive tackle signed to the practice squad Thursday, worked with the scout team.
*T Eric Young, cut Tuesday, is back with the Rams. He was assigned to the practice squad. WR Sean Walker was released from the practice squad.
*Former St. Louis Cardinals running back Stump Mitchell is the Redskins’ assistant head coach/running backs coach.
*QB Marc Bulger needs two completions to become the Rams’ career leader. Jim Everett (1986-93) is the current leader, with 1,847 (in 353 more attempts than Bulger).
All for now . . .

If you think it’s annoying now, wait til the TDs start flying at FedEx. You will all know the words by then.
Gotta agree with many of the geniuses who write in about Devaney..hell, he had a team of All-Pros when he came in , had an unlimited payroll with no cap problems , succeeded a Front Office populated by Menza students ,who never made any mistakes at all on Draft day , and had made fabulous trades in the past. No obstacles whatsoever to overcome.Definitely has to go. He’s had one full game to prove himself , and simply hasn’t done it.Spags , too. No wins after one full game. Yep , definitely time to clean house.
Three strikes and your out!!! Bulger has played like crap the last two years. Looked the same in preason and continued against Seattle. Give him two more starts. If he hasn’t finally got it going put Null in and let the kid get OJT!!! By the end of the season we’ll know if he is a keeper or we have to draft or trade for a QB next year!
You don’t have to go to Washington to hear “Hail to the Redskins” either. Two or three years ago in St. Louis, last game of the year, I sat near two skins fans who stood up and sang the song each time their team scored. Rams ended up winning in OT.
Didn’t take long for the Bulger bashing. He looked terrible in the preseason didn’t he? Well he played in 2-3 drives, so I am sure that really counts. He didn’t play poorly in game 1. He didn’t have a turnover or a fumble. But I guess that if we put in Boller he will change everything. He has only never been to a Pro Bowl, played a full year without injuries or being benched, or let go as a free agent for a rookie. If you put Null in then you are looking at possibly winning 1 game. That sends a great message to fans and free agents. That makes total sense. The posts on this website are amazing!!
I think if we focus on the big problem which is our offensive line and defensive line we will see why we have these problems. If you go back to the years the rams were winning look at both fronts? If you give bolger protection and keep him upright good things can and will happen. Until then, we will continue to see him get pounded week after week.
Rams are going to whip Washington by 2 TD’s.
It’s coming.. hide your valuables and lock your refrigerators.
I’m ready to concede that Bulger will not get us to the promised land. He can throw accurate passes if he gets good protection, is all. He just cannot do enough athletically, and he hasn’t done anything clutch in about a thousand years. However, Bulger can do enough for us to be competitive this year if the O-line plays up to the level of their paychecks. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter who the QB is. That’s ridiculous to call for Null.
Bulger will be the Rams all time leader in completions? I think Kurt Warner just committed suicide so he could roll over in his grave.
“WOW”i agree with “eocjr” everything you are saying is true but you thinking and speaking of off past glory. Eocjr is thinking like me. If we are going to rebuild, then rebuild that includes the QB i would be suprized to see bulger here next year. That is just business not personal. I like Bulger but he is shell shocked (blame Martz). In this west coast offense you need a QB that moves around. not stays in the pocket. watch the game he RARELY if ever steps into his throws. I don’t see much happening this season. I Will still watch though. GO RAMS!
