Jackson “can’t wait” to don throwback uniform Sunday

The St. Louis Rams of 2009 will look a lot like the St. Louis Rams of 1999 — at least, in physical appearance — on Sunday when they meet the Vikings at the Edward Jones Dome. For the first time, the Rams will be decked out in throwback uniforms. They’ll also don the throwbacks Dec. 20, when the Texans are in town.

The current navy blue and gold color scheme will be replaced by the royal blue and yellow that the team brought when it moved from Los Angeles in 1995. The idea is to mark the 10th year since the Rams beat the Titans in the Super Bowl.

“I’m looking forward to it,” running back Steven Jackson said. “I’ve been wanting to wear those jerseys for quite some time now. You look around the league year after year and you see everyone wearing their throwbacks. I was wondering, would we ever get a chance to?

“It’s going to be special. I can’t wait to put mine on.”

As for the colors, Jackson prefers the old look.

“I like the yellow, I like that blue, that mixture of it. I enjoy it,” he said. “But maybe that’s because it’s something different and I don’t get to wear it every Sunday.”

Notes & quotes:

*The situation at WR is getting even murkier. Donnie Avery, who couldn’t finish practice Wednesday because of a sore hamstring, was back Thursday and took part in nearly all the drills. But Keenan Burton, who also tweaked a hammy Wednesday, sat out. And midway through Thursday’s practice, Ruvell Martin went down with the same malady, a sore hamstring, and Danny Amendola twisted an ankle. Amendola returned to practice, but as of now, the only fully healthy WR the Rams have is Nate Jones.

*CB Ron Bartell (thigh) and S Craig Dahl (concussion) were full participants Thursday.

*S Anthony Smith (Achilles’ tendon) sat out.

*QB Marc Bulger ran the scout team, getting in more throws — and harder throws — than he did Wednesday. Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Kyle Boller “very likely” would start Sunday, but Bulger might be the backup.

*Bradley Fletcher still is sharing reps with Jonathan Wade at CB.

*It appears that Paris Lenon again will start at SLB over Larry Grant.

All for now…

Wow…reading this article, Im wondering, who in the hell are these guys listed as starters and potential starters…Ruvell Martin, Nate Jones, Paris Lenon, Danny Amendola, Larry Grant????…no wonder the Rams are struggling right now…this roster is a mess…trade the #1 pick in the 2010 draft for draft picks/players….

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, we need the #1 to draft a QB! We’ll never win with Bulger. We need either Bradford, Locker (Wash QB) or Claussen (ND QB).

Keep dreaming. Next year we will dump Alex Barron because the price will be too high for this underperformer. #1 draft pick next year will have to be a tackle. It doesn’t get any better folks. Seriously thinking of becoming a Colts fan after 30 years of this garbage.

This current Rams team will disgrace those throwsbacks.

Yeah, let’s get a tackle. I love how people try to act like they’re football geniuses by suggesting that we draft odd-position players like tackles and ends. This team needs a leader - someone who touches the ball on every play (and I don’t mean a center). Get a dynamic, strong-willed QB who has actually won before. At least that will give us a reason to watch - even if they continue to lose.

You know it is bad when the big news is throwback uniforms and how pumped Jackson is to wear them. The Vikes will stack the box while Jared Allen goes off like a madman after Boller every down. This is more likely to be a shutout than any game previously played to date. This is so lopsided a game it isn’t fair.

I’ve got an idea. How about going back to the really cool uniforms the Rams wore during the Roman Gabriel era! Instead of tryign to run away from their LA roots, the St. Louis Rams seem to be moving farther and farther away!

Throwbacks? Throw up…

Let’s hope they can hang in there and steal a win from Favre and company. On this topic of throwbacks, I’d like to see the blue and white of the 60s Deacon Jones era out on the field. At the time I didn’t like the switch to blue end yellow. I hope they will at least wear the dark jersey.
