Tests show Avery’s hip injury apparently isn’t serious
The best news the St. Louis Rams received Monday was that the hip injury sustained by wide receiver Donnie Avery on Sunday in Jacksonville doesn’t appear to be serious. X-rays Sunday were negative, as was an MRI exam Monday. Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Avery would be day-to-day.
“I’m sure he’s sore,” Spagnuolo said. “I know one thing: He was already talking about getting back out there (Sunday) in the locker room. He was talking about, ‘I’ll be out there practicing, Coach, I’ll be out there.’ That’s him. He wants to come back. That’s a good problem to have.”
Notes & quotes:
*Injury report: DE C.J. Ah You (sprained ankle), CB Ron Bartell (mild concussion), LB Larry Grant (bruised ribs), DE James Hall (groin), G Richie Incognito (sprained ankle), LB Will Witherspoon (hip/back). None of the injuries is considered serious.
*Spagnuolo reported that S James Butler, out since suffering knee injury Sept. 27 vs. Green Bay, had an encouraging workout Monday. “Hopefully we can get him out there and get him back in the fold this week. That would be good,” Spagnuolo said.
*The Jaguars ran 84 plays in the 23-20 OT win, vs. just 53 for the Rams, and had a time-of-possession edge of 13 1/2 minutes.
*Spagnuolo gave the players Monday off. “I told them to watch the tape on their own, and then I told them to get away from it,” Spagnuolo said. “We’ll come back on Wednesday and face a challenge of play the Colts. It’ll all be about Indianapolis and we’ll be moving on.”
*After Avery was hurt, Tim Carter went down. That left the Rams with just two WRs. Carter was back in after missing just one play, though. Had he stayed on the sideline, TE Daniel Fells would’ve filled in at WR.
*In addition to chasing around former teammate Torry Holt, who caught five passes for 101 yards, and taking a blow to the head, Bartell also was charged with calling the coin toss before OT. “I went over to Ron and said, ‘Look, call it right,’” Spagnuolo quipped. He didn’t, and the Rams never saw the ball again.
All for now . . .

Hey, since the Rams are so light at WR, isn’t Kevin Curtis available from Philly? Rumor is Maclin and Jackson have nailed down the top two spots and Philly can’t pay starter money to Curtis anymore…would probably cost a 5th, or 4th at worst.
This is good news. This team could use some loosing a game such as last Sunday.
For those who wrote in that the Rams would have to be nuts to go after Brandon Marshall….do you still feel that way? No doubt we couldn’t afford him if we couldn’t afford Tory Holt. Tough on Bulger/Boller having no-experience wide receivers. Based on Wash getting Sherman Lewis to run their offense, maybe we can get Mike Martz back to run theirs……isn’t he doing color for NFL or ???
why in the world would be give up draft picks for an aging #3 WR? he is not a difference maker and its not like he’d get us into the playoff picture any time soon… we need to stock pile picks, not give them away for marginal players.
What ever happened to hip pads? Hopefully, Avery doesn’t have a hip pointer.
That is great news that we will be getting James Butler back. He is the defensive back field leader. He knows the defensive schemes that Coach Spags wants to run making the proper calls for adjustment. The defensive secondary has played very well without their leader but this is a big boost to their psychic. Gentlemen keep playing with the same attitude on defense the great blow out every sports program is predicting this weekend will be much closer. Just believe that on any given Sunday you can and will win this season. Offense, Payton can’t beat us if he is not on the field so it’s time play above the anticipate level of expectation. Go win one for yourselves and the fans of the St.Louis Rams.
How do you spell Avery…S-O-F-T.
Hopefully Avery is getting his head together also from the stupid show of a week ago. Hopefully again, let’s trade Barron and get Smith at LT. Might as well gel for the rest of the year. Otherwise another wasted pick, and this one is on Devanney.

It doesn’t matter he will be injured again the next time he plays. Another bust for the rams. You might keep him as a third receiver but that about all you are going to get out of him.
Joey Galloway has been cut by the Patriots. The Rams should sign him?
