Vikings lineman fined for shove on Rams Gibson
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The NFL has fined Minnesota offensive tackle Artis Hicks $5,000 for unecessary roughness for shoving St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Gary Gibson on a play that ended Gibson’s season with a broken ankle.
“I don’t go out there thinking I’m going to hurt anyone,” Hicks told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “But people get hurt. It’s part of the game. It’s unfortunate.”
Hicks shoved Gibson during a 47-yard pass completion in the third quarter of last Sunday’s game at the Edward Jones Dome, which was won by the Vikings 38-10. There was no penalty called on the play.

$5,000 fine for ending someone’s season? What a shame. That guy should at least be suspended for a couple of games or fined $100,000.
Bias ass NFL Ref…. You have to win in this league to get breaks..
Not to mention no penalty on the play. How does the league expect us to ever win anything if the other teams can have their way with us like this. I am not blaming any losses on it, I would just like to see some fairness in it. If Gibson were Justin Tuck, Kris Jenkins, or even the Cheater Williams’ of the Vikings, there would be much more to this.
No pushing and shoving allowed!!! Let’s all wear orange flags!!! This league is ridiculous with all these pansy ass calls.
Has anyone checked with Burwell to see if racism was a factor in the no penalty call. If not, surely he can make something up!
Interesting. In the last game one of the Vikings ”clothes-lined” Boller during his attempt at the short TD pass to the end zone, but no penalty was called. Boller was almost decapitated. Earlier, a Ram was tagged for 15 for shoving Favre. (I wish he knew how to spell Farve). They should really strive for more consistency. Right now the consistency seems to be to protect the ”top” QBs.

An apology for the blatant cheap shot that ended another player’s season would have been the correct answer. Not: OH WELL PEOPLE GET HURT, DARN
I saw the replay of the play and questioned why there wasn’t a unsportsmanlike on it…obviously the Refs and league office saw two different things…which is a common occurrence in Rams games imo.
The punishment should fit the crime. You illegally hit somebody and end their season, then your season should come to an end as well.
Yes, I also didn’t get the call on the clothesline given to Boller, which looked downright lethal. At the game I recall a penalty being called; but don’t you think that if someone had clotheslined Brady like that he would have been ejected from the game? Just because the Rams are currently one of the worst teams in the NFL doesn’t mean the league shouldn’t protect Rams players too.
