Backup safeties Craig Dahl and David Roach both were fined $5,000 by the NFL for unnecessary roughing penalties in the fourth quarter of the St. Louis Rams’ Nov. 1 game against Detroit.

Roach was fined for unnecessarily striking an opponent who was away from the play on a Detroit punt with 7 minutes left in the game.

Dahl was fined for unnecessarily striking an opponent with his forearm on a Detroit pass play with 1:21 to play. (There was no yardage markoff against the Rams on this play because of offsetting penalties.)

However, there was no fine _ as some observers had anticipated _ on a crunching hit by Detroit linebacker Zack Follett on Danny Amendola, during a fourth-quarter kickoff return by Amendola. Amendola left the game with a concussion.

Unbelievable! If anyone should’ve been fined it was Follert. It was clearly a helmet to helmet shot, leading with the helmet etc. Danny’s head went straight back and down, resulting in a pretty bad concussion. The NFL is clueless or still has it out for the Rams.

time to hunt down these refs and give them a concussion of their own. Then have there be no penalty to pay for it. justice served.

I have a billion dollar idea. Tackling insurance - for NFL players. The government can make it mandatory and carry fines and jail time for not having it. What if a player is fined more than he can afford to pay? It would also embolden the players to play football again, you know the football we grew up watching, before the Tom Brady rule was enacted. HA I know we can call it Goodell care!!Sean Hanity could come out against it, and Katie Couric could pretend it hasn’t already failed in other leagues. What a great idea.

Who is Zach Follert? Is this an inside joke that I’m not getting since I wasn’t at the game?
Zach Follett (note the lack of the extra ‘r’) is an outstanding, hard-hitting LB from CAL. I believe he takes after Terry Tate, office linebacker.

Excuse the extra R, it’s right next to the T. The point isn’t whether he is a hard hitter or not, lots of NFL players are hard hitters. The point is that he injured another player leading with his helmet and collided with Amendola’s helmet, giving him a nice concussion. He should’ve been fined, or at the very least a flag thrown on the play, but per NFL rules the refs look the other way if it’s in favor of the Rams.
