For one weekend, football isn’t Spagnuolo’s focus

Don’t be surprised if you see Steve and Maria Spagnuolo this weekend at your favorite restaurant, the zoo or the neighborhood movie theater. The St. Louis Rams’ head coach is planning some local R&R this weekend with his team on its bye week.

“My wife and I would like to stay here and enjoy St. Louis. You don’t get to do that during the season,” Spagnuolo said. “So we’ll be in town. I’m sure we’ll find some places to eat and just relax a little bit.”

The break comes at a welcome time for the coaches as well as the players, he added.

“I think in this league, it’s tough to go 16 weeks as a player, and probably as a coach,” Spagnuolo said. “This business is a grind, it’s non-stop, 24-7. Whether you’re actually involved in this building or not, it’s always on your mind.  So, I do think (the bye week is) a good thing. It’s a healthy thing.”

Notes & quotes:

*After about a 90-minute practice Wednesday, the players were treated to a barbecue lunch, then were dismissed until Monday. Spagnuolo said he told them to “travel safe and be good.”

*WR/KR Danny Amendola, who sustained a concussion on a vicious hit Sunday, passed his neuro exam but didn’t practice Wednesday. G Jacob Bell, who also had a concussion but passed his test Tuesday, returned to practice. Also, DE C.J. Ah You (ankle) was a full participant.

*K Josh Brown is the NFC’s special-teams player of the week. Brown kicked a 41-yard field goal, two PATs and threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to TE Daniel Fells on a fake FG in the 17-10 victory in Detroit that snapped the Rams’ 17-game skid.

All for now…

I would suggest taking the week off to pack your stuff so when you get fired at the end of the season you will have more time to job/house hunt.

I’m sure Joe you could do a whole lot better with the talent that Spags has on this team…. TOOL! You stop an undefeated team with your defensive unit, then maybe we can talk…. I’m not saying Spags has been perfect, and I’m not even comitting to say he should be the coach long term, but half way through his first season you’re already prepared to fire him…. I can just imagine what you thought about Vermeil when he first got here (not that Spags is the next coming of Vermeil)…. my point being, back off, give him a chance to see what he can do…. Rome wasn’t built in a day… anybody that can’t give him a season to see what he can do, then those are the crappiest sports fans out there…

Good for him and I am sure he will enjoy all the sights here after being in NY City.
I hope he is not planning more tha 60 minutes to cover them all in the Big City. I guess the Arch, the Park and the ZOO should do it. Oh I almost forgot, Oh never mind the Village never was built, I guess he can always visit the sand lot softball park.

Wonder how Chip and Lucia will spend their bye week. Oh, wait, they have permanent bye weeks as absentee owners. Would be nice if they were more involved and acted as if they cared about the club and what happens to it. Guess it’s time for the to sell and let someone who does care, manage it and provide a rudder for this rudderless organization!

Not to worry, Mr. Spagnolo. In a year or two, with the Rams back in LA, your bye week will offer you and your wife plenty of things to do and see. I can personally show you around.

give the guy a break, he has 1 fewer wins than the last 2 coaches of the rams were able to put together in the past year. No illusions on how badly the NO Saints are going to feast on this team in a week or so, but these guys are not hanging their heads, they are not defeated…they have tasted victory, so the next game ought to be interesting. I will be there and screaming loud hoping to disrupt mr brees (haha)here’s hoping for the upset of the decade on next sunday at the dome

What about Jimmy Johnson, and his first season. Wasn’t he 1-15 his first year? Wow! What an horrible coach he turned out to be. Some great coaches have horrible rookie years. Spags seems to have his teams attention, and respect unlike Linehan. Please stop the complaining!
