Rookie’s tackle helped nail down Rams’ victory in Detroit

His contribution might have gotten lost somewhat in the St. Louis Rams’ euphoria after RB Steven Jackson’s dramatic touchdown run and the 17-10 victory Sunday in Detroit, but rookie K.C. Asiodu was more than a bit player in the result that snapped a 17-game losing streak.

After Jackson scored with 1:38 to go, Josh Brown sent the kickoff down the right side, where it was fielded by Derrick Williams at the 3-yard line. Williams cut slightly toward the middle and briefly appeared to have a wide-open lane as he gathered speed. But Asiodu jumped into the gap and brought Williams down at the 23-yard line.

“It’s always good to contribute a little bit,” said Asiodu, a linebacker from Central Oklahoma. “The other guys did a good job of pushing him out, and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was more than happy to make that play for us and our team.”

Notes & quotes:

*G Jacob Bell and WR/KR Danny Amendola sat out practice today after sustaining concussions Sunday. Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Bell passed his neuro exam earlier in the day, however, and will practice Wednesday. Amendola still was experiencing some symptoms , so his test was moved to Wednesday.

*DE C.J. Ah You (ankle) did some individual work.

*G Richie Incognito (foot) is scheduled to shed his orthopedic boot Monday.

*Here’s Spagnuolo on the newest Ram, CB Danny Gorrer, who was signed off the Saints’ practice squad: “(GM) Billy (Devaney) and his staff and (director of pro personnel) Mike Williams had an eyeball on him for quite some time. We thought this was the time to do it. We’ve got the bye week, get him in, run around a little bit and maybe he can learn the system. We’ve got a lot to find out about him.”

*Here’s Gorrer on his strengths: “I believe I’m a cover corner. I’m a fast guy, and I try to bring a lot to the table. I can come up and support the run. Whatever the team needs, I’m going to try to give my all.”

All for now…

BD and his scouts may have found another diamond in the rough. Gorrer is a 4.4
speed guy who was not drafted due to an injury before he came out. The Saints are flush and needed another player at another at a different position. One mans junk is a another mans treasure? WE will see.

I’m sure Mr. Devaney and the evaluation team are going to miss on a guy or two here and there (ahem …. Tim Carter), but so far, since he’s been allowed to make the decisions on his own, he seems to be doing pretty dang well. Amendola, Lenon, Laurainitis, Smith, Fletcher, Ah You, etc. have all looked like valuable players. I look forward to seeing what Gibson can do when the QB actually gives him a chance to catch a ball. I’m hoping Gorrer can come in and be a difference maker, as well. This team is definitely in need of talent at the CB position. Bartell seems to be getting lit up on a weekly basis. Fortunately, the Lions didn’t have Calvin Johnson to throw at him, or their passing game might have looked pretty dangerous.

Bartell is no Deion Sanders but he has been playing hurt most of the year. Let’s cut the guy just a little slack.

I originally thought that Devaney was just using the oldest trick in the book…bring in a player from your next opponent’s practice squad to help with game planning. But perhaps he has found a useful player here. It certainly makes sense to raid the practice squads from the elite teams. Keep up the good work Billy!

It would be nice to know how tall he is, weight, college, etc. Was he drafted or a walk-on, etc.

How would you like to come from a team with no losses to a team with 1 win. At least he may have an opportunity here though. Best of luck Gorrer.
