After officially placing defensive end C.J. Ah You (knee) on the injured reserve list Tuesday, the Rams filled his roster spot Wednesday by promoting tight end Eric Butler from the practice squad.

Butler, 6-2, 255, was signed by the Rams in March and was with the team throughout minicamps, OTAs, and training camp. He was signed to the practice squad Sept. 6 after being released in the final roster cutdowns on Labor Day weekend. He entered the NFL with the New York Giants in 2008 as an undrafted rookie out of Mississippi State

The Rams have added defensive end Sean Convover to fill Butler’s spot on the practice squad. Conover was one of three DEs who visited Rams Park for tryouts Tuesday. The others were Larry Birdine and Otis Grigsby.

Conover, 6-5, 275, was most recently with Detroit. The Bucknell graduate entered the league as a rookie free agent with Tennessee and played in 11 games with two starts for the Titans in 2006 and 2007, recording 25 tackles.

Maybe, if we put the four together we get a Dallas Clark or something…

5 O-linemen, 1 QB, 4 TEs and SJ39! Let’s give it a shot!

Let’s just cut the crap and run the wishbone. Everyone here and across the country knows the Rams don’t have a pro offense anyway.

That gives the Rams three Butlers: James, Quincy and Eric. I’d rather have 3 Mannings.

Really hard to figure why we activate another TE.

Im happy for Butler and everything, but why not sean walker? it would seem a bit more logical to see what he can do for us and what he will have to offer in the future

With Karney having some injury issues, I am sure that Butler was brought on in case we need another lead blocker…many times in todays NFL the TE and FB are interchangeable…that is my best guesstimation.

in that case Sum, wouldn’t we just use daniel fells? last year when we released dan krieder he became the FB/H-back for the team and it would seem more sensible that he could make an easier transition there to. i dont mean to be picky about this, i just really hate seeing rookies stay on the practice squad for the entire season. i would really like to see sean walker go out there and see what he can do
