Steelers 41, Rams 24

The Rams tried to make nice with their fans Thursday night. They staged a wonderful halftime ceremony for Marshall Faulk, retiring his No. 28.
They gave away lots of gifts to “lucky” PSL holders. But if the Rams wanted to impress their fans in this holiday season, they should have actually WON A GAME.

But we suppose that is asking too much in this fiasco of a season. With thousands of their towel-waving fans cheering them on, the Steelers rolled over the Rams 41-24 at the Edward Jones Dome.

The Rams did muster some offense in this game, with both Marc Bulger and Gus Frerotte working the ball to Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Randy McMichael and even Drew Bennett. Running back Steven Jackson ran as hard as ever.

But one Bulger pass was intercepted for a touchdown (by Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor) and the Pittsburgh offense pounded the Rams defense into submission.

After top Steelers running back Willie Parker suffered a broken leg, Najeh Davenport ran through the Rams for 123 yards rushing and 44 yards receiving.

So the Rams fell to 3-12 with one game to play, at Arizona. They remained in line for the second overall pick in the NFL Draft, which is all that Rams fans have to look forward to at this point.

it is not surprising that this if the first and perhaps only comment on this blog following another embarassing loss. losing hurts. i was there to celebrate the retirement of faulk’s (one of the greatest players of all time)jersey. the exuberant steeler fans added a lot to create more or less of a play-off atmosphere for the game. i was pumped because winning this game for faulk would in a small way have made up for some of the sickening postgame nausea which has become associated with my trips to the dome. as fans, we get tired of hearing ourselves repeat the same refrains during difficult times; however the “the truth will set us free”.

linny is a loser and bulger is NOT a winner. our team is NOT a team. our offensive and defensive lines have been weak for years now. etc. etc. fakhir brown……a favorite of linny….simply stinks….and he is agruably the best we have got in the secondary…which does make atogwe look like a tremendous asset. there is a need for a complete overhaul of this organization.

merry christmas and happy new year!

mccollum and stuessie deserve a lot of credit for helping to protect bulger and his $65 contract. those guys deserve lots of credit; however, the better result would have been to let bulger’s career here mercifully end in a hospital bed. steve savard is an idiot for praising bulger and anyone who thinks he can lead this team to victory is a damn fool.

brandon chillar also gets a gold star for becoming a real asset. witherspoon consistently earns his pay. carriker is a keeper and so is ryan and haslet has done a good job with what he had to work with. the punter jones is excellent. wilkinson?????????????? is unexplainable awol for the season. tackling remains a big weakness showing our mental toughness on defense is still lacking…but we need more hitters in the secondary and the pass defense is awful as well. occasional interceptions don’t come close to adequately compensating for all of the “score at will” performances given up by our secondary.

steven jackson is a stud, but he needs a team. let’s not for get that and include the acquisiion of the best available blocking fullback a.s.a.p. pittman and leonard … one of them is expendable…both valuable, but neither useful to block, block, block. put one of them “one the block” for a true blocking back.

i sure hope someone out there is listening.

and santa, i want one more thing for Christmas……..that is, i want a re-assurance fromt the rams that bruuuuuuuuuuce will finish his career in st. louis. he will NEVER be a drag on the team and his leadership will be invaluable as we try and move forward after this horrific year.

I think the rams are saying all the right things! Linehan is hands down the best headcoach in the NFC! Haslett needs to go he is bringing down the team!Boulger is well worth the tom brady money. We need some depth at tight end and i am positive we will get it in the first round of the draft. Alex barron should be in the pro bowl! we also need to cut tori holt to prove a point to the rest of the team after his tiraid on the sidelines thursday. I dont think, i know, we need to give linehan the biggest contract extension ever given to a head coach….hows 15years $165 million sound? by the way the cardinals suck hairy sak and i hope they enjoy rolen’s contract…..GOOOOO DODGERS!
