A second chance for the SLU women
At first glance, you look at SLU’s draw for the A-10 women’s tournament and you think, that couldn’t be much worse.
Tiebreakers left SLU with the No. 11 seed, which gave them as an opponent in their opening game St. Joseph’s, the No. 6 seed. The Hawks will be playing on their home court, and when the teams met on Feb. 6, St. Joe’s won 65-44.
Shimmy Gray-Miller thinks it’s good.
“I think it’s a really good draw,” she said. ”I like challenges. I’m a results-oriented person. We can see how far we’ve really grown, how far we’ve come since the butt-kicking they gave us. We’ve worked hard in practice and put in some new things, offensively and defensively, and we’ve done it because of how bad we lost to St. Joseph’s. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing at St. Joseph’s or in Africa. It’s really about us at this point. We’re continuously getting better. St. Joseph’s will be a good indicator.”
Gray-Miller thinks there isn’t much separation in the A-10, though there’s clearly more there than in the men’s side.
All the games at the A-10 tournament but the final will be streamed live on the league’s website, www.atlantic10.org.
