SLU’s recruiting class grew on Wednesday as they got a letter of intent from Jeff Reid, a 6-5 shooting guard from Hayden High in Topeka. He got 3 stars from Rivals and Scouts and a 40 from is unranked by ESPN. Gonzaga was looking at him, along with a bunch of Midwest schools. From what I’ve read in other places, he’s a good shooter and defender, though not the quickest guy. He and Christian Salecich would seem to give SLU two good shooting guards for next season, and they’ll be needed after Lisch and Liddell depart.

And it gives SLU two guys named Reid (or Reed).

SLU now has 11 scholarships committed for next season, plus Paul Eckerle and Daniel Lisch. Majerus hasn’t ruled out bringing in a fifth guy for next season. And, again, it’s a reality of college basketball that players transfer. But obviously, having almost the entire team in two classes can spell trouble down the road.

Thank goodness for SLU’s new weight-training facility. If you see this kid’s picture on scout, he doesn’t look 175 lbs soaking wet. In any event, welcome to SLU and don’t go on Billikens.com.

Get your 4 cards out for Kent State tonight!!

Majerus’ track record says he will push about 60% of these guys out of the baskeball program before their four years are up. Now that SLU is “big-time”, the revolving door for players will continue and the young men will learn that they are nothing more than expendable chess pieces for RM.

Cotto, John, Cassity, (et al) had better keep an eye on the rear view mirror.

The more Kwamain Mitchell’s this program can recruit, the better. Kid looks like he’s 21 and plays like he’s 25. He’s got that attitude that might not sit well with the gray-haired old farts that comprise 80% of the Chaifetz, but the Depends Era of Billiken Basketball is over. Can’t wait to see what Majerus does with Mitchell. He’ll be a first-rounder for sure.

Bobbi,

Who has had a problem with Mitchell? Nobody.
