SLU expecting big crowd for Boston College game at Chaifetz
It might not be a sellout, but ticket sales have been brisk for Saturday’s game with Boston College, which is expected to draw the largest crowd of the nonconference season, and quite possibly the whole season.
Will it sell out? SLU people aren’t making predictions, though they say they are expecting a big day of game walk up crowd. If they had beaten Kent State, that would have made their chances of a sellout much better.
SLU drew 6,434 fans for the Kent State game on a Wednesday night — the attendance being announced is people in seats, not tickets sold — and a Saturday afternoon game against an ACC team has produced high demand. No word on how many tickets were sold for Kent State but the spread of fans in the upper rows, which are the walk-up sales, was similar to the opener against UMSL, which had an attendance of 7,170. (And that was a game for which many of the seats down low went unused.)
Student attendance has been good the first two games, and Saturday should bring out more of the people with good seats down low.
If this game doesn’t sellout, it’s hard to say if any game on the schedule would (barring SLU going on a big winning streak to drum up interest). The best teams in the A-10 — Xavier and Temple — dont’ come to Chaifetz this year. So if there is one, it could be the game with St. Joe’s (Feb. 18) or Dayton (Feb. 21). Hard to see any of the other games drumming up that much interest. Though again, if SLU is 18-4, fans will be coming out of the woodwork.
SLU had four home crowds of over 10,000 last year at Scottrade Center: against Southern Illinois, Dayton, Xavier and St. Bonaventure (the final home game). The biggest crowd was for Dayton, 11,108. The SIUC and Xavier games would have been sellouts at Chaifetz. There would have been about 200 seats left for the Bonnies.

I don’t know what the ticket pricing was at Scottrade, but the pricing at Chaifetz seems pretty ridiculous.
The cheapest seats you can buy are $28 and $32, which seems pretty pricey … especially for a team like SLU that’s still trying to make it’s mark.
Here are some discounted games. The prices range from $2-$7. Its not many games but I guess its better then nothing. I agree $25 or so price tag is going to severely affect the walk up crowd

Ticket prices are way too high. With the current economic situation, people cannot afford to purchase them. They need more staggered pricing with the cheapest tickets being in the $15 range. Until they change the prices or become nationally ranked, there is not much of a chance of a sell-out. It is sad that we’ve waited so long for this on-campus arena and now we can’t even sell it out when it is brand new. Crowds will likely be smaller than they were at Scottrade. Disappointing. Hopefully, they re-think things over at SLU to get more people in the building.
The crowds maybe smaller, but they are making much more money off the ticket base they they have previously. Also, every seat in the building is a great seat. It is a much better place to watch a game than Savvis.
“with the current economic situation…”
Does everything have to start off like that? Jesus. It has nothing to do with the economy; it has everything to do with the product on the court. God. Any chance to blame the Bush administration for Clinton administration failures, just ask bills1 for his two cents (no pun intended, as I’m sure he has more than two cents).
What a joke.
Metzinger,
Don’t you have anything better to do? Like getting kicked off BIllikens.com for the umpteenth time?
