SLU women’s volleyball RPI is up to No. 9

Not more to add than what the headline says: SLU’s women’s volleyball team is ninth in the latest release of the NCAA women’s volleyball RPI. The AVCA coaches poll is a little more reserved, ranking SLU 20th this week. (By the way, most of the schools in the AVCA rankings are big state schools. The only private schools ahead of SLU are Stanford, USC and San Diego.)

SLU closes out the regular season with games at Dayton and Xavier on Saturday and Sunday. A win over Dayton would clinch first place in the West Division of the A-10 and give them a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament at SLU. If SLU loses to Dayton, the two would like finish tied and the relevant tiebreakers would be the winning percentage in games — SLU won 3-0 in the first meeting — and then in points.

But with an RPI of 9, the SLU women don’t have to win the conference tournament to get in. And they potentially would be a very good seed in the tournament. I’m not an expert on how the NCAA seeds women’s volleyball (sorry), but I would think that the NCAA wouldn’t put No. 9 SLU and No. 6 Illinois in the same first-round set of teams. (Four teams will play at one site, with the first-day winners meeting on the second day.) That’s good, because Illinois would likely be at home. SLU can’t be at home the first weekend of the tournament because of conflicts at Chaifetz. (There’s a Carrie Underwood concert on Dec. 5 and men’s basketball plays Savanahha State on Dec. 6.) (For future years, I’m told SLU is going to look at keeping that weekend open just in case.)

Wonderful scheduling by Global Spectrum. I thought we wanted to build an on-campus Arena so we didn’t have to play second fiddle to the Blues, Monster Truck Rallies, Nelly and especially a fiddle-toting Carrie Underwood. This is ridiculous and just another classic example of Saint Louis University not knowing what the hell it is doing. I rest my case, your honor.

Thanks to the admins on Billikens.com for putting up links to these wonderful stories. I love having multiple outlets to criticize SLU. You wonder why young people don’t support Saint Louis University? Because of you old people thinking everything that goes on in the Athletic Department and the Athletic Marketing Department is wonderful and ground-breaking. You are incredibly misinformed. When SLU finally gets its head out of its ass and hires people from within the Saint Louis University family (other than the Global Spectrum kid who doesn’t know his right hand from his left foot), will you finally see some significant strides in SLU sports.

All Steve or the Moderators have to do is let me post on Billikens.com; it’s pretty simple. If you don’t like what I have to say, don’t encourage me. Was I right about your boi Soderberg? Yes. Yes I was. Grow a pair and quit acting like you are so sensitive to criticism. This program has major flaws, and since I was privy enough to witness the flaws first-hand while I was an undergrad, maybe you could take some advice. Steve, you are a pussy.

hey Bobby,
Grow up man. Don’t be such a Negative Nancy. Try to see things from another person’s perspective before posting your opinions because you have no respect for anyone elses. Show respect and you’ll get respect.

Well excuse me for being a fan. Steve has issues with me and he can talk to me like a man instead of just banning me from a public forum. Last time I checked, there aren’t a lot of places for fans of Saint Louis University, whether they are critical of the program or not, to discuss things with other SLU fans. No one wants to hear the negative things about SLU and for that, you should not call yourself fans. Drink the Kool-Aid…plenty of that from the likes of BillikenRoy and Streets; speaking of which, he said if I didn’t get banned, that he wouldn’t post anymore. I implore you to come up with any relevant posts since Streets made this claim that contains ground-breaking news. There haven’t been any. I’m going to be at Humphrey’s before the game on Friday. If you want to logically discuss SLU basketball, I’ll see you there.

There’s nothing wrong with good debate and expressing your opinion, whether it be positive or negative. However, when one doesn’t allow oneself to even attempt to see another’s perspective there is no sharing of opinions or discussing of the issues. Both of those require consideration of others thoughts and viewpoints, which you just don’t do. It’s commendable that you stick to your guns, but if you don’t care about other’s opinions beyond that they are fodder for you to tear apart, stick to journalism and stay off of the forums and discussion boards.
