Australian forward Ellis commits to SLU
Cody Ellis, a 6-foot-8 forward from Perth, Australia, has orally committed to play basketball at St. Louis University in the fall. He can sign a letter of intent on April 15.
Ellis is a teammate of another SLU recruit, 6-4 guard Christian Salecich, at the Australian Institute of Sport and with the Australian under-19 team. According to the institute’s website, Ellis “brings an interior game with the ability to stretch defenses to the perimeter.” He’s also described as a “knowledgeable player with great passing skills and making good decisions.” And if you want to see him and read some other stuff, here’s a link. I don’t have any stats on him.
Ellis chose SLU over Wake Forest and Colorado.
So right now for next season, SLU has:
G Kwamain Mitchell 5-10
G Paul Eckerle 6-1
G Femi John 6-2
G Kyle Cassity 6-3
G Christian Salecich 6-4
G Jeff Reid 6-5
F Brian Conklin 6-6
F Jon Smith 6-7
F Cory Remekun 6-8
F Cody Ellis 6-8
F Willie Reed 6-9
C Brett Thompson 6-10
That’s 12 scholarships, leaving them at least one more, two if they take back Eckerle’s. Majerus recently mentioned the possibility of bringing in a juco player to give some experience to a team that would be only freshmen and sophomores (not counting Eckerle), but he’s very reluctant to do that and it would have to be a really good fit.
