It’s late and I’ll have more to say later on Sunday. But first …

A week ago, someone asked me if I thought SLU could go 10-6 in league play and I basically punted, saying I’d have a better idea after SLU’s next two games. Now, I’d say the chance of that is pretty good and 11-5 can’t be ruled out. SLU’s final three games are against teams behind it in the standings, first with St. Bonaventure, than with Duquesne, then La Salle. Bonnie is struggling, it will be tough to win at Duquesne and SLU should beat La Salle at Chaifetz. Can SLU get a first-round bye? The picture will be a tad clearer after Sunday’s four games, but I think it will be tough. Of the teams in spots one through four, SLU is two games behind three of them in the loss column and one back on the other. SLU has the tiebreaker edge on none of those teams, and some of the teams ahead of SLU have substantially easier schedules. One thing to watch is what happens to Dayton now. It’s conceivable the Flyers could lose their last five games. It’s a really tough schedule.

Here are the plus-minus numbers. Kwamain Mitchell led the team even though he didn’t score much. Barry Eberhardt was a +9, and he was a +8 in the second half. The numbers are consistent with what you’d expect for the game.

Mitchell +10

Eberhardt +9

Liddell +6

Cassity +6

Lisch +5

Conklin +5

Thompson +2

Reed Even

Eckerle -3

Tom…You have covered the Billikens long enough to know that anything is possible with this team. Please don’t jinx us.
