SLU shortstop Ryan Bennett has been named a first-team academic All-American by ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA, the college sports information directors’ group.

Bennett is the fifth Billiken to be named an Academic All-American this season: Pat Disbennett (men’s soccer), Kevin Lisch (men’s basketball), Theresa Lisch (women’s basketball) and Lauren Olson (women’s soccer) are the others. There are a few more, softball and cross country/track and field, still to come.

Disbennett is the only SLU athlete who could have been an academic All-American in C-USA and the A-10.

“A lot of people go to college for seven years.”

“Yeah, they’re called ‘doctors.’”
