Where are they now? Ex-SLU players find new homes
A year ago, four SLU players, Dustin Maguire, Adam Knollmeyer, Marcus Relphorde and Anthony Mitchell left the program because they didn’t fit into Rick Majerus’ plans. They all seem to have finally found a home:
Relphorde just signed a letter of intent with Colorado after spending a year at a JC in Iowa. He averaged 12 points and five rebounds a game last season. He also looked at TCU and Arkansas.
Mitchell signed with SIUE after playing at Highland Community College.
Maguire led DII Northern Kentucky in scoring with 15.0 points per game as the Norse went 24-7 and reached the Division II tournament as a No. 3 seed, losing in the first round to Lake Superior State in double overtime. He shot 39.8 percent pn 3’s and 93.6 percent from the line, the best in all three NCAA divisions.
Knollmeyer went to Missouri Science and Technology (nee Rolla) and averaged 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds for a team that went 9-17. He started all but two games. And I see that MST’s coach is stepping down, meaning that Knollmeyer is about to get his fourth coach in four years of college basketball.
And Ruben Cotto will likely wind up at A-10 rival La Salle in the 2010-11 season. As a 4-2-4, a player who went from a 4-year school to a JC and then going back to a 4-year, I don’t think he’s eligible to sign a letter of intent yet — I could be wrong on this — but I’ve seen reports that he has verbally committed.

Dustin Maguire, also a former Edwardsville Tiger and IL prep All-Stater, was named 2nd-team all GLVC and 2nd-team D2 all Midwest Region. The Midwest Region selection qualifies him as a potential pre-season D2 All-American for the 2009-2010 season.
Another area player with SLU ties, and who will probably be forced out at Kentucky, is Josh Harrelson. Very reliable sources are saying Harrelson does not want to have to sit out a year if he transfers and is very interested in Northern Kentucky University where he can play immediately. Harrelson and Maguire know one another and reportedly have been in contact.
Hmmm…
I think Harrelson would still have to sit out a year if he transferred to a DI program, but not Northern Kentucky. He should have just gone to SLU in the first place.
Tom-
You should write an article on how Luke Meyer is KILLING overseas in Australia..he’s averaging nearly 35 points a game and 15 boards, his team is 10-2 and FINALLY PLAYING THE 3 Position (SF/wing) where he belongs…look out for LUUUUUUUUUKKKKAAYYY
