This isn’t really SLU sports news, but on the assumption that people who read this might have some interest in the academic side of SLU, provost Joe Weixlmann is stepping down. Exactly what’s going on is unclear. He’s taking a two-month leave and then his future position will be determined when he gets back. Here’s a story on it from our education blog and here’s the link to the university release on the matter. The dean of Parks will serve as interim provost, which is the person basically in charge of the academic side of the school.

Weixlmann was a frequent sight at many SLU sporting events — and because of his height, he was easy to see — and he would often join the media in Rick Majerus’ postgame news conferences.
