UPDATE: I’ve added dates for SIUC and Rockhurst (?)

It looks like the SLU basketball schedule will be coming out this week. Over the last couple weeks, a lot of other schools have released their schedules, so based on that we can kind of piece things together (not to steal the athletic departement’s thunder). Based on what other schools have put out, here’s what it looks like. There are obviously other games to fill in the blanks, but I haven’t tracked all of those down.

Nov. 14 SEMO

Nov. 18 Nebraska (the back half of their home and home deal)

Nov. 22 Kenesaw State.

Nov. 24 Mississippi Valley State (I think; they’re the only team in the Chicago tournament not to release their schedule, and they’re the only one not playing someone else on this day)

Nov. 27 Iowa State (at the tournament in Chicago)

Nov. 28 Notre Dame or Northwestern (see above)

Dec. 2 at Georgia (presumably the front half of a home and home)

Dec. 5 Southern Illinois

Dec. 12 Rockhurst (at least that’s what Rockhurst’s schedule says.)

Dec. 19 Missouri State (the resumption of this series)

Jan. 2 at Bowling Green (presumably the front half of a home and home)

The conference schedule is the same as last year’s, though reversed for home and road. That means SLU gets the good teams coming to Chaifetz this season: Xavier, Dayton, Temple, Richmond, Rhode Island, plus SLU thorn St. Bonaventure, Fordham and Duquesne. Duquesne, Richmond and Dayton are the teams SLU plays twice.

And look for more games to be on TV this year. The conference has loosened the strings on the TV deal.

Did Memphis have to vacate the result of its scrimmage with SLU?

SLU men’s soccer looked good in its exhibition with Missouri State on Saturday. I should also say that Hermann Stadium looked good. SLU has put up flags behind the east grandstand honoring each of the team’s national champions, and when the wind blows, which seems to be always at Hermann, it makes for a nice look. Tim Ream, Mike Roach and Jimmy Holmes teamed up for a very nice, end-to-end goal in the second half, and freshman goalie Mark Pais made two really great saves. Senior Ross Kaufman played the first half in goal and was never tested the way Pais was, so he didn’t get the chance to make a dramatic save. Dan Donigan said he’ll split their time in Wednesday’s exhibition at Memphis.

In slightly old news that happened while I was on vacation, associate AD Kosha Irby has left to join Cheryl Levick’s staff at Georgia State.

TT - Any word regarding whether Cody Ellis will qualify and when he is expected on campus? Thanks in advance.

Cody is apparently caught up in the annual backlog at the NCAA Clearinghouse and is waiting for a thumbs up there before coming over. (And fall athletes may have priority at the moment.) There are no concerns about his eligibility. Those with really good memories may recall that soccer player Kyle Patterson stayed home in England until he was cleared by the NCAA, which I think kept him out of the team’s first exhibiiton game. He then flew out and actually played in a game two days after he arrived. Visas could come into play here.
