Even after loss to Dayton, SLU still has a shot at top 2 spots in A-10 men’s soccer

Results elsewhere in the league, notably Charlotte getting thumped by Dayton, kept SLU alive in the race to get an all-important first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 men’s soccer tournament, even though it lost 1-0 to Dayton on Sunday in a game where coach Dan Donigan get a red card. The A-10 tournament is SLU’s only route to a spot in the NCAA tournament, and getting a first-round bye helps a great dael. SLU is tied for third right now with St. Bonaventure, but if it wins out, beating Temple on Friday and St. Joe’s on Sunday, it will finish at least second. Fordham is in second with a two-point lead on SLU, but the Rams have just one game to play. And if SLU and SBU were both to win out and finish tied at 21 points, SLU has the tiebreaker edge. If SLU were to lose one of its games, it would probably get passed by Charlotte.  The tougher of the games for SLU will be on Friday at Temple. The Owls are 8-6-2 and battling for the last spot in the tournament. The Owls are 5-1-1 at home and their narrow, bumpy field (if memory serves) is a tough place to play. St. Joe’s, meanwhile, is 0-15.
