Who is Xavier’s Sean Miller calling an idiot?
I mean that seriously. Speaking on the Atlantic 10 Conference conference call yesterday, Miller started talking about his team’s recent losses and how tough it is to win on the road in the league. That reminded him of a game he was watching recently where he heard a broadcaster talking about A-10 schools losing on the road. That led to this comment from Miller, generously typed up by Doug Harris at the Dayton Daily News:
“I think it’s the damn stupidest question anyone can ask on an Atlantic 10 telecast. If you look at the winning percentage in any conference, particularly the top eight, that’s the way it is. That’s why road wins are so great to have, and many times at the end of a conference season, the team that has that success on the road finds themselves as the conference champion.
“But for us to be scratching our heads and saying, ‘Boy, it seems like a lot of Atlantic 10 teams are losing on the road,’ well, you’re not paying attention to college basketball. Really, you’re an idiot.”
So who said it? The last national telecast of a league game was Xavier’s loss at Charlotte, with John Sciambi and Hubert Green, and if Miller was watching a tape of it, he was probably doing it without the audio. But maybe not. The day before that was the SLU-St. Joe’s game with Tom McCarthy and Steve Lappas, both of whom have been around the league enough to know better. There aren’t that many regional broadcasts of A-10 games, and I don’t know how many Miller has access to. The KPLR feed of the Dayton-SLU game did air in Dayton and maybe Miller was able to see it in Cincinnati as he did some advance scouting for the Xavier-Dayton game in two weeks. Xavier played on Sunday last weekend, so he could have been watching the game on Saturday night.
So if anyone has been watching an A-10 game lately and heard this, let me know, because I’m curious to find out.

Seems like something Rich Gould could say.
