SLU will face Dayton in first round of A-10 women’s tourney
SLU lost to Richmond on Sunday and finished ninth in the Atlantic 10, giving them a first round meeting with Dayton on Friday in Charlotte at 11 a.m. St. Louis time. The winner faces No. 1 Xavier on Saturday. The way the league standings worked out, the result didn’t matter. SLU was locked into the 8-9 game.
Both Dayton and Xavier are teams SLU wouldn’t mind another shot at. SLU led Dayton by 11 with 10 minutes to go in the first meeting between the schools and the Flyers didn’t take the lead until there was 1:45 to play. A clutch 3 by Kristin Daugherty gave Dayton the edge.
And then just a week ago, SLU led Xavier by 3 with 2:29 to go. Xavier tied the game with 1:14 and then SLU coach Shimmy Gray-Miller thought a lot of calls went against her team down the stretch.
SLU closed the season with six losses in its final eight games.
