Lineup (Gm 1): Double dip in Jupiter

JUPITER, Fla. — Rain washed away the early morning here in Abacoa and scattered showers were a possible threat to the doubleheader the Cardinals have scheduled this afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium. But the clouds have cleared. It’s sunny.

That leaves only one hurdle for the Cardinals. Innings.

Would have been a shame to lose the early game because of some of the minor leaguers being called in as reinforcements. Sure there’s Mickey Mantle’s kin and the Arkansas K-man, but one name stands out in the list of pitchers coming over:

Mark McCormick

The starting lineup for the afternoon game — the night game will be started by Adam Wainwright and featuring the names not seen below — is otherwise rather standard. The leadoff rotation continues. The Cardinals continue to see how that power-pack in the middle clicks. And so on:

The Cardinals (2-4)

  1. Brian Barton, CF
  2. Joe Mather, LF
  3. Albert Pujols, 1B
  4. Troy Glaus, 3B
  5. Juan Gonzalez, DH
  6. Yadier Molina, C
  7. Ryan Ludwick, RF
  8. Cesar Izturis, SS
  9. Aaron Miles, 2B

Starting pitcher: RHP Mike Parisi. Followed: LHP Ron Villone; RHP Hugo Castellanos; RHP Russ Springer; RHP Tyler Herron; RHP Chris Perez; RHP Mark McCormick; RHP Jess Todd; RHP David Kopp; RHP Blake King.

@ Sarah:

Mitch Boggs, Dewon Brazelton, Adam Ottavino, Jaime Garcia, P.J. Walters (who missed the bus), Tyler Herron, and Stu Pomeranz were the pitchers, plus catchers Doug Carpenter, Nick Derba, and Brandon Yarbrough.

DG - It looks like Barton has turned it up a notch - going 4-5 with a 2HR today. How does he look to you? Can he make this roster?
