La Russa gets Presidential call

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Manager Tony La Russa was spending time with some of his best and furriest friends Thursday morning when his phone twittered. There are few calls that take him away from a tour of an animal rescue shelter or a conversation about the need to have and hold and save pets.

This was one.

“That was the White House,” the manager explained. “The President wants me to greet him at the airport.”

Post-Dispatch staff writer par excellence Elizabethe Holland was kind enough to provide the on-the-spot reporting for this blog entry. La Russa told us yesterday that he would spend part of his off day at Stray Rescue of St. Louis as it was competing for a $1-million makeover of its shelter. Judges for the contest were in town today and a festival of sorts welcomed them. Supporters brought their animals and La Russa was one of several local two-legged celebrities in attendance.

The winner of the contest will be announced May 21 in USA Today.

It was during a tour of the facility that La Russa’s phone rang with the invitation from the White House. President George W. Bush is visiting St. Louis on Air Force One on Friday (read more about it over at Jo Mannies’ “Political Fix”), and he wondered if La Russa had the time to meet him at the airport.

La Russa has a previous engagement Friday night, but said he’d be happy to be at the airport Friday morning to see Air Force One pull in.

The manager and the former owner of the Texas Rangers have crossed paths many times since both of them left the American League for other endeavors. Bush threw out the first pitch at old Busch a few seasons ago, emerging from the dugout at just about the same spot La Russa stood for all those years. And, after the 2006 World Series victory, Bush hosted the Cardinals at the White House.

Then-shortstop David Eckstein once told me about being pulled aside into a room at the White House to stand with La Russa, then-general manager Walt Jocketty, and chair Bill DeWitt Jr. as they waited for the President. Those five would be the last people to go to the dais, and they had some time to kill.

“The President came in,” Eckstein said, “and had all these questions for us. He just wanted to talk a little baseball.”

Well, at least we know he keeps on baseball, if not the actually important stuff his job entails.

Maybe he wants to talk about the Animal Shelter. Shows what you know, you inane little moron you…

I wonder if Tony will look at him with his head slightly cocked to the side and ask point blank: “Are you lookin’ for trouble?” LOL!!

The inane little moron that is the president of the United States, George W. Bush, has the highest DISAPPROVAL rating of ANY modern president. 71% of the United States disapproves of his job as president. The saddest experience that I have ever had as a Cardinal fan is seeing W with the birds on bats on his chest that opening day a few years ago.
At least he can’t steal a third election.
The only real leader in that meeting will be Tony LaRussa!!!

— Dan
1:58 pm May 1st, 2008

Well said Dan. Agreed 100%. LaRussa should be asking ole GW if he would like to meet HIM at the airport, not the other way around.

Dan….leave your personal feelings out of this. I’m sure if you were your political persuasions candiadte for President or had been elected President, you’d be using your pull for this like this. I am so tired of people like your esorting to name calling(hence the inane little moron comment) when it comes to President Bush. Saddest experience I’ve ever had as a Cardinals fan is knwoing that people like you let politics come into your ballgame watching. Let’s keep the two seperate.

— Jason
2:11 pm May 1st, 2008

71% of americans may not approve of the job PRESIDENT George W. Bush has done but that is probably the same 71% that also couldn’t trouble themselves to vote. We should also realize that he did manage to 1)own part of a Major League Baseball team and 2)become the leader of the United States of America… not exactly the easiest things to do…

— Mike
2:19 pm May 1st, 2008

Worst president ever! I will ALWAYS continue to comment as long as he continues to support and create policies that not only do not support the poor of our country and other countires, but kill them.
People failing to connect their leisure activities with the treatment of the poor only ensures that the poor will continue to be ignored!
I will let continue to FORCE my politics to be involved in my life as a diehard lifelong Cardinals fan so long as politics show up at Busch, which they ALWAYS will!

— Dan
2:22 pm May 1st, 2008

Mike,
Your arguement has no logic. You are making an assumption that has no grounding. Do you really think that people who do not vote would waste their time filling out a political poll?
The TRUTH is that 71% of the United States disapproves of the job that he has done. I could not care less that he took on two difficult job if he sucked at them! I could take on a difficult job and fail at it. His Rangers were terrible. He traded away a future member of the 600 homerun club and THEN put the US in a war that we CANNOT win which has led to the death of THOUSANDS! AND we are in the midst of a very scary recession that will effect the poorest among us more than anyone else. Hell, I could be a bad owner of an MLB team and a bad president!

— Dan
2:25 pm May 1st, 2008

Jason,
You want be to leave my personal feeling, but you write about your personal feelings?! I am confused why you can do that, but I can not. Please explain!
I am so tired of people saying that those who are critical of the job of this president should not voice their opinion.
I will continue…

— Dan
2:28 pm May 1st, 2008

Dan…..I am a diehard Cardinals fan, but you know what, I can check my politics at the door. If you were really that strong in your convictions you wouldn’t support the owners or the team that broght George Bush to throw out the first pitch. Oh wait…I forgot the Bush bashers are only Bush bashers when it benefits them. If there was a left leaning President or someone who was a democrat in office, or even better a democrat with a disapproval rating of 71% would you be as mad that they were invited. I think it’s great you let your views carry you and direct your moral compass, but you know what this is what makes baseball great is that you can throw aside political views and watch a game. But, as long as there is someone there at the ball park there that doesn’t have the same views as you I suppose there will always be name calling.

— Jason
2:28 pm May 1st, 2008

I’m not saying don’t be critical, because the man deserves criticism. But, do it on the polictical boards. i am tired of every facet of life being dominated by people who feel they have to put their two polictical cents in. When it boils down to I don’t care about your politiclal views and you don’t care about mine. Be as critical as you want, but just in appropriate forums, that’s all. This is a sports post, not a Donnybrook post.

— Jason
2:34 pm May 1st, 2008

I have never named called a fellow fan. While name calling the president may be a mistake, I will always challenge the way that he has been president. AND of course I would not mind if a left leaning president threw out the first pitch! Why would I? I am way left! As long as they were doing a good job, I would love to have the chance to show support for a president that was leading us in a way that I approved.
I will tell you what I would NEVER do. I would NEVER throw things at a fan or call a fan names if they booed a standing president or did not stand up for God Bless America. Each of these things have happened to me. So, do not even suggest that right leaning people in this country know the correct way to respond. AND PLEASE do not suggest that politics do show up at baseball games. It always has and always will.
And I will remind you and challenge you to realize that the reason oppression exists today and always will is because privledged people can decide when to care and when not to care. The suffering of the world do not have that blessing!

— Dan
2:36 pm May 1st, 2008

Confusius said “better to remain silent and appear a fool, than to open mouth and remove all doubt.” Something Dan should probably follow. Right on Jason! I love your comments. No room for politics in baseball. Maybe the president wants to say hello to an old friend and give some encourgement to a really good team/leader. It’s a shame people like Dan can’t get over an election 8 years ago…man that’s history! I see your bilge all the way in Honolulu, HI. It does get around the world, you twit!

Easy way to ignore…call someone an idiot!
NAME CALLING has never changed the TRUTH!
I am over an election. I will never be over thousand of people being killed for nothing, recession, the plight of the poor being ignored…

— Dan
2:41 pm May 1st, 2008

Ron,
Please explain what PRESIDENTIAL policies of Jimmy Carter made him such a bad president.
You may think that he is presently a bad CITIZEN, but he never had a 71% disapproval rating! Let’s talk facts here, gentlemen, and not go low with the namecalling that I originally was critized for.

— Dan
2:43 pm May 1st, 2008

The LAST president with approval ratings this low as he left the White House was Harry Truman.

President Bush is in good company and will be vindicated by history…probably when my tax money will be keeping a catheter up the wazoo of you Bush-hating morons.

— KW
2:47 pm May 1st, 2008

How about this, all of you shut up! You guys are worse than the folks on the editorial board. The story was simply about Don Tony meeting with the President Friday morning. THAT’S IT! It wasn’t talking about politics at all! When the leader of the free world calls and asks if you’d like to meet him at the airport to chat or whatever they are going to do, you do it! Simple as that! We should all be so lucky to be held in the same regard as Tony is. Get over yourselves.

— Curt Schilling
2:52 pm May 1st, 2008

I love that a baseball blog is now a political blog. My two favorite things coming together. I see no good reason for any of the morons on this bog, even myself, to shut up. Why are peope so afraid of political dialogue. BRING IT ON!
P.S. He is meeting with PRESIDENT - a politican! So, guess what this does have to do with politics. No one ever suggested that he should not meet with him. Hell, I would shake the man’s hand and I find him to be the most dispicable man in the free world!

— Dan
2:56 pm May 1st, 2008

Dan…let me get one thing straight. I’m not criticizing your views. I think it’s admirable that you stnad up for what you see is fit. My issue is why does it seem that when it comes to politics people have to resort to name calling? Both sides do it, so I suppose the argument I had earlier with the left doing all the time is a bit flawed. In fact the right does as much if not more than the left, they just try to be more subtle about. I am neither right nor left and I realize that this isn’t a perfect world and I might be taking on a Pollyanna view of it, but can’t you say the man is a misguided, the man has poor judgement, or something to that effect instead of calling him an inane little moron. Say waht you want about the man, but somewhere along the line he was smart enough to align himself with the right people who got him elected. If a moron could do that then there would be a lot worse presidents than him and no sports don’t affect politics and politics don’t affect sports. In the grand scheme of things life such as hunger, budgets, wars, sports should rank very low in how it affects our everyday life.

3:11 pm May 1st, 2008

Can you PLEASE explain why you name call?

— Jason
3:12 pm May 1st, 2008

Dan, it may currently be 71% of the citizens that do not approve of the President, but as a Navy veteran and a veteran of this war “we cannot win?” I am a proud member of the remaining 29% that still supports this country’s Commander in Chief. I also supported Bill Clinton when he held the office and he was a complete embarrassment to the military and law enforcement.

PS: We won the “war” several years ago.

— Mark

Congratulations Mark. My son just joined the Navy on April 1.
Thanks.

— Tony G.
3:16 pm May 1st, 2008

Dan,
So if you run into the Mayor or an Alderman on the street and say ‘Hello’, or even shake his/her hand, that makes it political because he/she is in politics? Spare me. Spare all of us. Seriously. This is a non-political issue. Jump up and down, hold your breath, don’t stand for ‘God Bless America’, or whatever you want to do. It doesn’t change the fact that you’re on here trolling for a reason to bash the President. Actions like yours are the reason the Dems will screw up the election and McCain will win. Stop your innane arguing over silly things and join the rest of us in attempting to make this little slice of the solar system more tollerable. You can start by shutting up

— Matt
3:22 pm May 1st, 2008

Oh, come on Dan, What are the chances of you even being alive for the “worst President ever?”

That line has been so over-used lately! Bush’s first term was better than his second, but that is true for many, many Presidents. I think he’ll end up being a middle of the pack President.
He’s had some failures and some success.

By the way, the worst President in my lifetime was Carter (hands down)!

— fborgwash

and dan, we will continue to support the President by acknowledging that no one person will ever make everyone happy but we support your right to say whatever you want.

I, for one, still love this President, despite the mistakes that have been made. He is steadfast in his love for this country. I support him for that.

Well, Dan (or whatever your name is–I really don’t care–I happen to support George W Bush and cannot stand either candidate for the Demorats. Liberal politics stinks! Still, it has nothing to do with the subject at hand. I will continue to vote Republican and you can do your thing. In the meantime we give respect to the holder of the office whoever it is. And I find these polls very flawed. We give our approval rating based on one or two subjects.

Just remember, it is ultimately the congress that makes our laws and establishes policy. And, as I recall, the congress has a lower approval rating even than our president.

Let’s talk baseball and the honor given to our club manager. I would be honored if the president asked me to meet with him, even if he was a demorat.

“The saddest experience that I have ever had as a Cardinal fan is seeing W with the birds on bats on his chest that opening day a few years ago.”

Sorry to read that, Dan. Personally I think some of the tragedy this team has seen in the very recent past, i.e. the deaths of Darryl Kile and Josh Hancock, were much sadder than seeing an unpopular President wearing the birds on the bat.

If people want to rant about politics, go for it. It’s your right to express an opinion, but do it somewhere else. This blog is intended for fans of Cardinal baseball. Thanks, dg, for the interesting post about two men who love the game.

4:08 pm May 1st, 2008

I agree Jason!! I am sure if we look into Dan’s past we would find several down falls. Bush is trying to keep our country safe. I don’t agree with everything he has done but it sure beats what we could have had in the office. NOW THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A TRUE NIGHTMARE!!!

— Susie
4:09 pm May 1st, 2008

What a great honor for Mr. La Russa. I’d give anything to meet with the President. It would be a great honor to shake his hand and say “thank you” for all your hard work. Now, as far as his policies, I don’t agree with a lot of them…(ie: global warming (BS), Medicare subsidies, immigration reform…just to name a few. However, standing pat and resolute against global terrorism has been his strongest asset.

Dan, your talk is boring. Approval ratings? Pffft–who cares! You’re part of the sheep that probably blames Bush for high gas prices, rising food costs, etc…whatever man. How about educating yourself and learn a little before spewing your uneducated blather.

1) The baseball team W co-owned was the Texas Rangers, which, coincidentally or not, happens to be one of the worst teams in baseball over the last ten or twenty years. The Rangers were responsible for one of the worst contracts in sports history, the A-Rod $252M albatross. For those of you who are concerned about skyrocketing salaries in baseball (and if you aren’t you should be), our grand President’s former team was one of the main causes of this ridiculous state of affairs

2) What were Bush’s successes? I mean, other than policies that benefit the upper 1/2 of 1% of the population in terms of income (and of course, the military-industrial complex that now has complete dominion over our government) at the expense of the rest of us.

The war=FAILURE (and an impeachable crime)

The economy=In the toilet due to pandering to the Federal Reserve, investment bankers, and the rest of the elites who don’t give a damn about everyday working Americans and would sell us down the river in a heartbeat

Education system=In decline, due to the budget cuts W needed to fund his military-industrial projects (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) Your kids and my kids are getting crappy public school educations, but hey, at least Halliburton and Exxon-Mobil are enjoying record profits!

Diplomacy=Tattered, due to W’s arrogance and willingness to act unilaterally (and wrongfully) in affairs that have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE USA!

Job market=Crap, thanks to overspeculation in the housing market encouraged by W’s buddies in the Federal Reserve and their Wall Street flunkies. Not to mention a continuation of Clinton’s crappy NAFTA reforms and the outsourcing of American jobs overseas. Whatever happened to “Made in the USA”? It got replaced by “Made in China,” “Hecho in Mexico,” etc. AT THE EXPENSE OF THE AMERICAN WORKER

Civil liberties=Dwindling, thanks to Boogie Man intelligence laws that let authorities spy on whomever they want whenever they want. Whatever happened to the 4th Amendment? Our founding fathers are turning in their graves thanks to the likes of Alberto “I can’t remember” Gonzales and the rest of the goons hired by our great president (who as several people pointed out will certainly go down in history)

Need I remind you of Katrina and the Federal government’s subpar handling of it?

Need I remind you of the partisan bickering that now characterizes this nation, thanks to divisive figures such as W’s “mentor” the despicable master criminal and slimelord Karl Rove?

Need I remind you that virtually every business opportunity W got involved with FAILED? Including his supposed service to his country during the Vietnam War. His actions were a DISGRACE to this proud nation

I paid $3.89 a gallon for gas today. Gas was less than $1.50 a gallon before our grand president and secret society member King George II took office nearly 8 years ago. Isn’t that terrific?! Obviously, there’s no questioning success

3) Screw Bill Clinton too! For God’s sake people, you shouldn’t support ANYONE blindly–even the President. That’s not patriotism, that’s lemming-like stupidity. Are we fourth graders or adults? When the President does something good, you praise him. I’m still waiting for that to happen.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Theodore Roosevelt, 1918
(A great president, thank you very much)

4) Nobody gets to tell anyone else what they can or can’t say on here–unless it’s a site moderator. So if you’ve got a problem with what I’m saying, too bad. It’s a free country

5) I love baseball and the Cards. I’ve been a fan since ‘82. Tony’s doing a great job this year so far isn’t he? I don’t blame him for dropping everything and meeting the President.

All the best to all of you, and God HELP America

The simple fact that ANYONE …can defend ol bushie boy or his cronies…is unbelievably funny. W is for WORST EVER!!!! And YES…while inane little moron is a good start for describing his inability to lead…it still falls HORRIBLY short in describing what he actually is…GO CARDS !!!!!

dg-

Wow is all I can say. I thought this was a baseball blog.

Dan - if you are going to call someone an “inane little moron” you should at least be able to express yourself with proper grammar. In your comment #16 you say, “Sports EFFECTS politics, politics EFFECTS sports” Well it might be true that “Sports AFFECTS (verb) politics, politics AFFECTS sports” or that “politics has an EFFECT (noun) on sports” But your point about our “moron” president is not very EFFECTIVE if you cannot master a simple concept like nouns and verbs.

LOL…..I’m continually amused at all the “left leaning psychos” that appear on every msg board in America no matter what the topic is. Spike, cut down your drivel, my kids are getting an excellent education in central Illinois. Maybe you should consider moving to a different district, one that maybe isnt so concerned with whether or not 5 year olds can operate a computer….you say you’ve been a fan since 82??? Heheheh…I have shoes older than you sonny….GO CARDS!

It would be an honor to get an invitation from ANY US President. The Democratic controlled Congress has even a lower rating than Bush; it’s just a sign of the overal political climate. Recession? We had positive growth last quarter. A recession is a last 6 months away if at all. Please get real people!

— Darryl Mottin
4:44 pm May 1st, 2008

Dan, I will type this slow so even you can understand. No matter what your political persuasion is, it is very disrespectful of you to talk about the president as you have. I have never been a Bill Clinton fan, but at the time he was still the President and the office deserves that respect no matter who the president is. Your childish comments speak volumes about you. Besides, this forum is about Sports and that the President asked LaRussa to meet him at the airport. No matter who the President is, I would consider that an honor. At least this President has his pants on!
Congratulations to LaRussa for an great honor. Oh, by the way, I am not a LaRussa fan but this is NOT the forum for that. Perhaps you should have stayed in school!

To all the people who keep saying we shouldn’t talk about politics on this blog: I get your point, and to a certain extent I agree. However, I think too many people use sports (and TV shows) as a diversion to get away from the issues that really matter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a diehard baseball, college hoops, and boxing fan. But every now and then, how about if we talk about bigger and more pervasive issues?

Cynicism (and blind obedience to the powers that be) are the opposite of hope and progress.

Hey Dan - Nobody cares about your pathetic political beliefs so you can go crawl back under your rock. If you don’t like TLR pal-ing around with George W. then maybe you should go root for another team. I’ll bet you don’t like Bobby Knight or Bill Parcells either. Idyit.

Dan, calm down, eat a sandwich, drink a beer or something. Isn’t this a sports comment section? The man is our President. Approval ratings are for people who seek approval. Leaders act and do what they see as best, regardless of polls. GW has done that. Tony should be honored, and I’m sure he is.

— Dave
6:11 pm May 1st, 2008

Its funny that you mention that he has the lowest approval rating ever, but neglect to mention that at one point he had the highest rating ever. It is kind of hard to respect the opinion of someone who says that he stole an election when he was the candidate following the rules that the Constitution put forth. good old ignorance.

— jon
6:13 pm May 1st, 2008

Dan..

Last I checked this was the sports section. Please leave your political thoughts in the proper place of the website.

But back to our story…

It seems to me TLR has alot of friends in high places in both the sports world (Parcells, Bobby Knight and Belicheck) and poltical (Dubya). I think it goes to show how diverse a guy he is.

Hmmm. funny, those 4 guys aren’t really the most popular guys in the country either.. What a coincidence! ;-)

— JC
6:17 pm May 1st, 2008

Oh and Dan, one last thing.

If you want to blame someone on the lack of support for the poor. Why don’t you direct your anger at our do nothing Congress?

Dubya can only sign (or not) bills into law, but they have to write it first.

— JC
6:21 pm May 1st, 2008

So much anger. Lefties get mad that righties. Righties gets mad at the lefties. Opinions will never change.

1) I Don’t like the Bush for reasons that no one really cares about, but if I got a call stating that the president wanted me to come and meet him at the airport, I’ll probably go. I mean, for better or worse, he is one of the most powerful men in the world and I would go and meet him. I’m not sure what I would say. I would be careful, he might through me into Gitmo if I upset him.

2) Tony has been great, and if he wants to meet the president, cool. I just hope the president’s bad karma doesn’t transfer to the coach and the team.

3) Yes congress sticks, but the President is the head honcho. The figure head. Wasn’t it Truman who said “the buck stops here.” Maybe not, I don’t remember

4) Respect is earned, and getting elected president doesn’t earn respect. It’s what you do with your power once you’re in office.

5) Respect can also be lost!

6) Politics and sports have intermingled many, many times. Just look at the Olympics for an example. (or the World Baseball Classic)

7) Cards are going to CRUSH the cubbies!!!!!!!!!!!

Love that Curt Schilling dropped by and mentioned how a baseball blog has become a political blog, because isn’t he the baseball player who is trying to become a political player? Perfect. All this chatter has unleashed my inner Politicial Science major.

‘Tis true history not the present usually defines a president (read: Carter). But this notion of being “vindicated” by history is a little tricky when the present is rendering such a divisive verdict.

I am not really sure why I am wasting my time commenting on here since everyone has their own opinion, and my comment will not help change their political opinions, but I am an ex-soldier. I spent 18 months in Iraq, and I would gladly return. I have 1000 reasons why I support this war, and the president’s stance on it. I do not support the president 100%, but I do not believe he is sending “us” to die as some people alluded here. We are all volonteers, and we have the chance to make the world better. I wish more people could experience the war, and not just stay here and make opinions on it.

too bad bush should not even be president he lost by half a million votes…then he goes on to bankcrupt this nation, start a war that only benefits him and his cronnies, and does all this with a F&%#ing smirk!!

But if we continue to belive the BS the media feeds us we will continue to be fatasses!!

I would rather have a president caught with his pants down, than one with his hands in our pockets. All I know is how much worse our economy is now, than it was before President Bush came into office. I can only hope that “we the people” will vote for the best person to turn this country around.
Although we have gotten off the subject of sports, this has been one of the most interesting blogs I have ever read.
Congatulations to all of you.

I can’t believe how much hatred liberals have in them. President Bush has arguably been president in one of the roughest periods of this country’s history. I can only shudder at the thought of a President Gore or a President Kerry and how messed up this country would be then. That said, leave the politics at home in your alter to George Soros!

It seems that Dan is a very troubled person. His emotional flatulence spills out in complete congruence with his low intellect. Not only is he misinformed about the true nature of most of the problems in this world, he continues to spout the KoolAid given to him by the real perpetrators of these maladies. It’s a shame that we cannot re-institute a higher standard of voting requirements, as these Dan-like types continue to show up at the polls and make ill-informed choices at the direction of liberal terrorists like George Soros. Bush’s presidency did not fulfill the highest aspirations of many of us, but at least he is a principled man trying to do the right things for this country - unlike his predecessor who succumbed to the most base impulses when he should have been guarding his country against terrorists. Dan doesn’t seem capable of understanding even the most rudimentary explanations for winning the war against global terror, but at least he can go to sleep tonight knowing that someone is standing guard. And it’s not a liberal Bush basher.

Now, back to baseball.

fear mongers got us into this mess!! I think fellow bushies still belive Iraq had WMD and the world is flat. No one argues the fact that there is terror in the world, But who is creating the majority of the terror is a ligitimate question.

Um.. did I say the “do nothing Democratic congress”? no, I said “Congress”.. that covers Republicans, Democrats, Green, Whigs, et al.

They work for 10 months of a two year term, then run for office the other 14..

And to go more on the “do nothing”, what exactly has Congress done since the last election?

Since this isn’t about baseball, I’d say thanks to Tony for his support of animals, and to all you president haters, enjoy that tax rebate! Thanks Bush! Go Cards, Rams, and Blues! St. Louis Rocks!

Yeah, KGBSWO, just think how horrible our country would be if we still had 4,000+ Americans with us, tens of thousands not injured, and Iraq wasn’t a training ground for Al Queda.

Meanwhile, after overstretching our military and destroying our economy, Boy George gets to live out his childhood fantasies and talk some baseball. Wheee!

About of this ratings stuff, did you know that the 2006 World Series was the worst rating of all, but who cared unless you were following the ratings. We still WON THE TITLE, all I am saying is when things go well no one saying that he had a 95% approve rating (whatever it was) but now some people saying that 71% disapprove and now he is the worst ever. so whoever disapproves of Bush that is fine, but since HE is sending out rebate checks just put yours in my account since YOU dont approve of what HE does.

I love President Bush!! I always have, always will! All the stuff that is going on in this country - NONE of it is Bush’s fault. Katrina? FEMA’s fault Housing crisis? homeowner’s and bad lenders’ fault. Immegration problems? …Congress’ fault. The war?!!?! THE TERRORIST’S FAULT!!!!!

support our troops!!!!!

71% of people in this country are retarded; so, your argument is void.

Right now, the cost of the war divided by the population is $1,721 per person. So while he’s sending you rebate checks, he’s sending all your grandchildren’s money to Iraq. If you’re cool with that, then I guess there’s not much more to be said.

Adam…
Seriously?! That’s your arguement? Our grandchildren’s money is being sent to Iraq?!
Well, ok, to answer your question - YES, I am ok with that. Because I’d rather have their money
sent to Iraq that have them blown up by an emboldened terrorist organization that should have been taken care of 50 years ago!!

Two score and one blogpost ago, some blowhard seemed to be trying, inarticulately, to blame George W Bush for the A-Rod’s $250 million contract:

I’m pretty sure the Texas Rangers signed their crazy A-Rod contract AFTER the team was sold, or at least after Bush sold his share of the team. Blame him for deficits of a couple hundred billion dollars, if you like, but the A-Rod contract had nothing to do with him. I think A-Rod’s entire 10-year contract, which he voided last year under the wise advice of a crappy agent, would be spent in less than a day.

Vote Libertarian.

Jace,

Not going to take issue with anything else you wrote, but Katrina? Sorry, but Katrina and the disaster that threatened one of the greatest cities in our country and changed the lives of so many of my friends … well, that was a failing of people and programs long before FEMA was a household acronym. FEMA’s fault? Dial it back a decade or so.
