Post-Dispatch video interview with Mr. Kissell
Back in 2007, with the Cardinals fresh from the 10th World Series championship in team history, the Post-Dispatch, ahem, dispatched Gary Hairlson to Jupiter, Fla., to capture spring training on video and beam it back to the fans.
One morning, he caught up with the spring training fixture, the guru of fundamentals, George Kissell, whose death this week is being mourned across Cardinals Nation.
The following clip, is the interview Hairlson had with Kissell:

Also, John Lowe, a St. Louis native and now a Detroit Tigers’ beat writer for The Detroit Free Press, draws on conversations with Sparky Anderson for this remembrance of Mr. Kissell.

Derrick Goold said he was going to Mizzou for capital-J journalism, but after growing up in the Time Zone Baseball Forgot he was really drawn to MU sitting between two major-league cities. Goold joined the Post-Dispatch in 2001 after working for The Times-Picayune and Rocky Mountain News, covering sports from LSU to NHL and every level of baseball in between.
Wow! Thanks for posting this, DG! A great video. He has been apart of every Cardinal players career, from the likes of Stan the Man’s final days in a Cardinals uniform, Gibson to Ozzie to McGwire, to current day Cardinal great Albert Pujols. That is amazing.
No doubt Mr. Kissell is a big part of the Card’s winning tradition. It takes dedication and attention to the little things.
As great teachers do, Mr. Kissell sacrificed some of this own opportunities in order to see his students succeed.
