The P-DQ: Jason Isringhausen

JUPITER, Fla. — A time-honored tradition here at Roger Dean Stadium for a few members of the copy klatch is keeping a stopwatch on the National Anthem. It’s spring training for the vocalists, too, and some can run a little … say, showy … with their interpretations. A similar exercise could be done with the questions that make up The PD-Q.

As mentioned before, some click through the questions and others ponder. And then there are the are the recent two who set land-speed records. Apparently, closers work fast. Check the P-DQ clock:

  • Chris Perez … 3 minutes, 28 seconds
  • Jason Isringhausen … 2 minutes, 49 seconds

For comparison purposes only, I’ll put both up this afternoon — the Q&A with the all-time St. Louis Cardinals leader in saves and the Q&A with the young gun who is auditioning for the job. Both Isringhausen and Perez volunteered to take the P-DQ after seeing teammates go through the questions. Isringhausen, for example, came over to tell me not to “ruin” Evan Longoria “because he’s still young and good.” Fittingly, one of the answers Isringhausen gave had to do with what he should have done when he was young and good. And another answer is one that he hopes changes by the end of the season to the career milestone he’s chasing with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Izzy puts the quick in P-DQ:

That’s two that have put Shawshank as a movie they will always stop and watch. I am with them on it, since it is my favorite movie ever. I knew it had a lot of acclaim, but did not know that so many felt the same as me about it.
