Behind the scenes with The Man, El Hombre & our favorite shutterbug
TOWER GROVE — One of the highlights of Opening Day at Busch Stadium was iconic Cardinal Stan Musial making a personal appearance to deliver the game ball, and one of the finest sports photographers in the biz was there to capture The Man and the St. Louis Cardinals as they prepared to take the field.
Chris Lee’s tremendous photo that appeared on the front page of Tuesday’s Post-Dispatch is sure to be a poster, a snapshot with historic staying power.
It features the current face of the Cardinals, Albert Pujols, helping the all-time face of the Cardinals, Musial, get ready for his trip around the ballpark. It was, with one press of Lee’s finger, the history of the Cardinals and spectacle of Opening Day captured in a moment. But it wasn’t alone. In the photo staff’s blog at StlToday.com, Lee recounts how he got the photo and shares some of the other ones that didn’t reach print.

Here’s a taste of Lee’s must-read blog entry, where past and future shake hands:

Check out the other handshake in the background there — a former San Diego Padres shortstop turned Cardinal shaking hands with the most famous former Padres shortstop. Only our C-Lee.
