“Inman’s War”: A story of life in a colored battalion in WWII

Post-Dispatch Book Editor

The Post-Dispatch ran an interesting story recently by education reporter Steve Giegerich about a book published about a year and a half ago, “Inman’s War.”

A few readers have asked about purchasing the book. Here is the info:

“Inman’s War: A solder’s Story of Life in a Colored Battalion in WWII,” based on the letters exchanged between two Sumner High School teachers from 1942-44, is available through on-line book outlets and some area bookstores. It can also be special ordered at bookstores or, on-line, through the publisher, Paragon House (www.paragonhouse.com). Author Jeffrey Copeland was inspired to write the book, $17.95, after discovering love letters written to and from teachers Inman Perkins and Olivia Merriwether stuffed in a suitcase at a St. Louis area flea market.
