Head’s up on David Maraniss, Andre Dubus III, Iris Johansen

Post-Dispatch Book Editor

David Maraniss, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for his Washington Post reporting on Bill Clinton, will be in St. Louis this week to discuss his new book.

“Rome 1960″ is about that year’s Olympic games, which included not only Cassius Clay and Wilma Rudolph, but Soviet defectors, the first Olympic doping scandal and lots of international intrigue and politics.

Maraniss will talk about the book at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Jewish Community Center, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. Tickets are $8 and are available by phone at 314-442-3299; at the JCC in Creve Coeur; or at the door. A book signing will follow the author presentation.

Also, Andre Dubus III, author of “House of Sand and Fog,” will be in St. Louis at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss his first novel in nine years, “The Garden of Last Days.” He’ll be at Left Bank Books, 399 North Euclid Avenue.

Look for a story in the Post-Dispatch’s Here & Now section on former St. Louis airline clerk, Iris Johansen. Since then, she’s become a best-selling thriller writer. She and her son, Roy, have a new one, “Silent Thunder.” They talk about the book at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Louis Public Library’s Schlafly branch, 225 North Euclid Avenue. Free. 314-367-6731.
