The St. Louis Jewish Community Center opens its annual used book fair this Sunday, Aug. 10, Preview Day.  Organizers say that the first 100 people to let in rush the books like stampeding shoppers at a hot day-after-Thanksgiving sale.

Obviously a lot of people know the drill. The stampeders buy tickets early to get into Preview Day. The organizers know what to expect: It’s the 42nd annual used book sale.

Anyway, here’s the note on times and dates (also appearing in Sunday’s paper):

About 100,000 books will be available, organized into more than 50 categories. Hardcovers are usually $2. Records, CDs, tapes and videos also will be for sale.

Admission to the preview day is $10; there is no admission cost during the rest of the sale.

Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday. The sale will be closed Aug. 16. The final day, Aug. 17, is Bag Day, in which a bag of books costs $5. It goes from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the JCC’s Roswell and Wilma Messing Cultural Arts and Education Department’s scholarship and programming needs. The JCC sale is at 2 Millstone Campus Drive in Creve Coeur. For more info, see jccstl.org or call 314-442-3281.
