Two giant book sales over next 2 weekends

YMCA's annual book sale

St. Louisans can shop for new and used books in two special sales over the next two weeks.

First is the 31st annual YMCA sale. It starts Friday, Aug. 21, and will be at Kennedy Recreation Center, 6050 Wells Road, St. Louis, MO, (Near Meramec Bottom Road & I-55 and 2 miles south of St. Anthony’s Hospital). It benefits YMCA literacy programs. Here are the times:

First Selection Night - Friday, August 21, 2009, 4 pm - 10 pm, $10 admission

Saturday, August 22 - Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 9 am - 9 pm, Free admission

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 – Half price day 9 am - 9 pm, Free admission

Wednesday, August 27, 2009 – $10 Bag or Box Day 9 am - 9 pm, Free admission

 The YMCA takes cash, checks, and all major credit cards. Paperbacks start at 50 cents and hard covers start at $1 unless marked otherwise.  For more details: ymcabookfair.org or 314-353-4960.

Another sale will be from 12-4 p.m. Aug. 28 and 29th at the St. Louis County Library headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

A preview sale for the Friends of the St. Louis County Library Foundation will be Thursday, August 27 from 5:00 ­ 8:00 p.m. For information on joining the Friends organization, call (314) 994-3300 ext.

The Library says it will sell over 10,000 books from the collection and private donations, including 2,000+ books from an estate of rare and collectible titles: 

A sizable collection of large print titles and children’s books will also be available. Many Library titles will be priced from .50 cents to $5.  In an adjoining room, Ready Readers will offer a sale of over 8,000 new books including children’s books, adult fiction and non-fiction, and reference books. Ready Readers’ books will be priced from $1-$7.

Ready Readers is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring preschool children from low-income communities to become readers.  All proceeds from the book sale will benefit Ready Readers and the St. Louis County Library Foundation¹s literacy and community outreach programs.
