South St. Louis native writes personal essays
Toriano Porter, the assistant sports editor at The Examiner in Independence, Mo., has written and self-published a book called “The Pride of Park Avenue.”
Apparently this Park Avenue isn’t the ritzy place in New York but the sometimes sketchy fairway that runs east and west in South St. Louis. Porter played football for Eureka High School and Central Missouri State University.
We missed listing Toriano Porter’s signing tonight at 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Branch of the St. Louis Public Library. That branch is at 3309 South Grand.
Here’s the library description of Porter’s book:
Toriano will discuss and sign his book, “The Pride of Park Avenue,” a collection of emotionally charged personal essays about life, loss and pain, and coming-of-age short stories centered on the pursuit of the American dream. The Pride of Park Avenue is Porter’s first published book. He is a former minor league football All-American for the St. Louis Bulldogs.
See Porter’s website about his book, http://prideofparkavenue.blogspot.com/.

I used to think Palin was an idiot. But right now I am in Seattle which is closer to Alaska than is St. Louis. In fact, just a little while ago I was up in the Space Needle and could almost see Alaska. Or maybe it was Russia. Now, I think I can understand Palin’s way of thinking. Heck, maybe I should run for VP or become U.S. Ambassador to Russia.
I’m not really surprised to see some of the mean spirited bloggers here. For once, please stick to issues instead of name calling. Do you realize it is perfectly fine to not agree with someone’s political views? You do not have to resort to name calling. It should be beneath you. I strongly disagree with Obama’s policies but would never call him an ‘idiot’ or a ‘waste of skin’. Be a better person than that. Onto the topic: Go Sarah! I’ve purchased her books today for my family, total of 12 books. I love Palin politics, she just makes sense. She is proud of her country and proud of it’s accomplishments. By the way, she wouldn’t BOW to another country’s leader. Maybe Obama should call her for advice
By the way, the bill you’re speaking of was put forth by Democrats, overwhelmingly supported by Democrats and despite some Republican resistance in form of voting, it’s a universal benefit.Sure Obama wasn’t there, but every congress person has skipped votes here and there. Who knows what he was doing, but i’m fairly sure he knew its was gonna pass. And in his case, i’m sure he’d be for a larger increase and other regulations that the bill was compromised to.
I have great interest for reading,it is one of the best pass time.Rather it can be said that Books are my best companion.I have great interest reading fiction as well as non-fiction books.Reading this post got to knew about a new and a very interesting book I shall surely go for reading it.
