Self-published author to open own store for holidays
Self-published authors have to work hard to get attention. But Jefferson County poet Byron von Rosenberg seems to be taking his book-selling to a new level.
He’s going to open a store in Crestwood Plaza for the holiday season and name it after his children’s book “I Don’t Want to Kiss a Llama!”
He’ll offer his poetry in several formats: books, Christmas cards, framed, on T-shirts, coffee mugs and more. He doesn’t worry about whether he’s getting his money’s worth from all the time he puts into promotion, saying just that “it’s a lot of fun. … It’s better than playing golf.”
Von Rosenberg of Byrnes Mill is a territory sales manager for the Boy Scouts. He got the idea for his book “I Don’t Want to Kiss a Llama!” when his daughter, Erin, spouted those words when offered a stuffed llama to kiss. (She’s now 18.) After four years in print, “Llama” has sold more than 10,000 copies.
Von Rosenberg’s store opens Nov. 1 near the Pasta House Co. restaurant. He says he will read poetry at 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and have storytelling at 2 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Sundays, he will read inspirational Christian poems at 5:30 p.m.
