‘Twilight’ mania at Amazon.com: 5 in top 10

In amazon.com’s top 10 best-selling books, five are part of the ‘Twilight’ series by author Stephenie Meyer.

How can that be since there are only four books in the series?

Well, a movie companion that doesn’t even go on sale until Oct. 28 is No. 10. The books’ sales will probably go up after the first “Twilight” movie opens on Nov. 21.

Do you think the little-known actors who star in the movie will become the big stars that those in the Harry Potter movies did? Not every fantasy series has become a successful movie series.

Could  “Twilight” perhaps fizzle, like “The Golden Compass”? Or will its sexual appeal mean that it draws a whole different audience? What do you think?

I think the movie will be a hit!! I have read all the books, and I can’t wait for Twilight, and HOPEFULLy the sequels as well! From the trailers, it looks like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have good on-screen chemistry, and I think it will be enough to make the series a hit on-screen too!

When I started reading the Twilight books, I couldn’t put them down!! I finished them all so quickly! I love them and I think the movie is going to be as good as the books!! YAY!! I am happy with the people they picked as the cast for the movie! Oh, and by the way, I am a Team Edward!! (No offense to Team Jacob)

Just kidding… kind of. But remember, this comment is coming from a person who loves Star Trek and the likes.

And last year they said vampires were dead. Stephenie Meyer is laughing all the way to the bank. So much for trends.

i’m a fan but not as optimistic as some commenters here. i guess a lot of twilight fans only assume without a doubt that it will do great in box office becuase it’s “twilight”, obviously. however they seem to have overlooked the fact that there’s still a lot of people out there who haven’t read the books and those who don’t like them. yes, harry potter has a tremendous success from box office. but twilight and harry potter are very different books and should not be compared. harry potter has everything that a successful movie needs, and is the kind of movie that appeals to a very wide range of audience. plus it’s backed by a large studio and a huge budget. twilight on the other hand, as compelling as the story itself is, seems to be targeted mainly to female viewers. besides, what works on books don’t always work on movies. a bestseller book doesn’t necessarily mean its film adaptation will become a blockbuster. just look at the infamouse Eragon and golden compass! so i won’t say it will be a definite smash success, but i’m crossing my fingers right now, hoping the best for the movie. and i guess we’ll find out if the movie will become successful after it’s released.

btw, if they ever decide to make the sequels into movies, i hope they dont stick too close to the books, especially breakding dawn, if you know what i mean.

Danny, interesting thoughts: any idea what you would do as a moviemaker to make the story appeal to men?

Also, what is it about vampires that some women find attractive? Personally, I prefer the real guys in the TV show ‘Supernatural’ over any of their prey.
Are vampires just more interesting because of their paranormal powers? Are real guys and stories about them too ‘real,’ i.e. the real problems of life are just too depressing and readers want a titillating escape?

Anyone?
