St. Louis lit events: Winter White gala and Warrior Poet award
Deadlines are approaching to buy tickets to two St. Louis literary events.
The first one is the St. Louis Public Library’s first Winter White gala, which will raise money for children’s programs.
Amid the marble and stained glass of Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, guests will have cocktails, dinner and an “after party.” Black tie optional. Honorary chairman is Paul LeClerc, president of the New York Public Library.
Tickets are $250 per person for the entire evening, which begins at 7 p.m. Reservations must be made by Wednesday. For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.ticketmaster.com, keyword “winter white,” or call 314-539-0359.
The Young Literati are also inviting guests to just the after party, which goes from 9:30 p.m.-1 p.m. It includes music by DJ Andrew, snacks, desserts and open bar. A discount of $25 off the $75 ticket is available through www.ticketmaster.com (enter promotional code literati1301).
Children’s programs at the library include homework helpers, technology assistance and (for next year) a program using assistance dogs who will “listen” to kids read.
The second event is the Warrior Poet Award Ceremony. This year’s Warrior Poet is Michael O’Brian, who will be honored Dec. 15 at Duff’s restaurant, 392 North Euclid Avenue. A board member of Word in Motion, O’Brian was active in bringing the National Poetry Slam to St. Louis in 2004.
The Warrior Poet ceremony, which includes a three-course dinner and poetry reading, is $30 (some complimentary tickets may still be available). For tickets or more info, call 314-443-4357.
