Ruth’s Chris Steak House is about to return to downtown St. Louis.

In the 1990s, the chain had a restaurant in an interesting basement space in the Court Square building on 11th Street. The new restaurant is scheduled to open Monday in the newly refurbished Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel, on Chestnut Street.

About 100 people will work at the restaurant, where the final touches are being applied this week. Mayor Francis Slay and the seemingly ever-present Fredbird are among those scheduled to be on hand for the ribbon cutting on Monday.

The downtown restaurant will be Ruth’s Chris second in the area. The chain’s other local spot is at Forsyth and Brentwood in Clayton.

Just another example of the continued revitalization of downtown. Good to see. Downtown has made great progress from 15 years ago.

Though I have enjoyed Ruth’s Chris in the past, it is a shame that the new opening came at the cost of a true St. Louis icon, Faust’s. When we lost Faust’s, we lost one of the finest dining establishments in the area. I unfortunately don’t see anything of similar quality anywhere on the horizon.

A great restaurant and favorite of Mr. Sean Hannity.

A high-end restaurant coming to downtown. In this new reality-driven economy, who can afford this? The answer is: not many. Another mostly vacant restaurant in the downtown area. Other than a sporting event why would anyone drive downtown - pay outrageous fees for parking, etc. Downtown STL is the most unfriendly middle-class location around. They clearly don’t understand the economy, it’s impact and what would draw folks to the area. Amazing ignorance. Thanks Mayor Slay for keeping up with the status-quo.

Will never eat there because of Sean Hannity’s pitch-man status for them. I love how “menace” says it’s Sean’s favorite…it’d be my favorite for $100k too. Hey, menace, how’s that sleep number bed?

I am so glad it’s coming to downtown once again. It is exactly what we need for a bustling, busy and wonderful downtown St. Louis! Thank goodness it’s not another Applebee’s. Thanks Mayor Slay for your wonderful work! You’re amazing!

BJ: I agree with another upscale restaurant being a bad idea though. But come on, $1 an hour to park is too expensive? If that’s true you can’t afford to eat out at all and certainly can’t tip for good service. After 7 you don’t feed the meters anything. Stay home cheapskate.

Hey Tonystl, invest in a downtown project is you really think a Ruth Chris is going to spur on a “bustling, busy and wonderful downtown St. Louis”. Absolutely Laughable! Put some money where your mouth is. How clueless. Do you really think there is a remote chance of a wonderful downtown happening in the next decade? Give me a break. The Fair STL used to be a nice event. Now, there is no air show. Just what I want to do on a hot July 4th. Head to the fair at Webster Groves - much nicer. Pull your head out Tonystl!!!
