Ruth’s Chris set to open in downtown St. Louis
Ruth’s Chris Steak House is about to return to downtown St. Louis.
In the 1990s, the chain had a restaurant in an interesting basement space in the Court Square building on 11th Street. The new restaurant is scheduled to open Monday in the newly refurbished Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel, on Chestnut Street.
About 100 people will work at the restaurant, where the final touches are being applied this week. Mayor Francis Slay and the seemingly ever-present Fredbird are among those scheduled to be on hand for the ribbon cutting on Monday.
The downtown restaurant will be Ruth’s Chris second in the area. The chain’s other local spot is at Forsyth and Brentwood in Clayton.

phooey - ever open your eyes and look at the parking fees for a sporting event anywhere close to the stadium? Pull your head out of your #$!@$!. And then there is the lovely Union Station. What a piece of $%@$#%. Charge for parking - and there are more vacant shops than there are filled. Beautiful. Again, good work Mayor Slay.
Hurray for Ruth’s Chris and the “new” Hyatt. Best of luck on what I’m sure will be a great opening and prosperous run!! Faust’s an icon?! Ha.
Sam, nice way to support the city. If the Hyatt does well, the restaurant will do well. BJ, this restaurant is clearly not for the middle class, it is a high end steak house for people with expense accounts and if you can’t afford to park downtown then you can’t afford to eat there.
BJ, you seem angry. take a deep breath, you’ll feel better.
S Combs - actually it’s probably cheaper than the ballpark.
What a joke that is. When I go, I bring in carry out pizzas, etc.
I think some of you are missing the point. Downtown is being revived. I work across the street from the new Hyatt/Ruth’s Chris, so I’m in the throws of the “hustle & bustle” every day. There are hundreds of people who live down here now in the new lofts, there are always conventions, visitors, tourists, etc. You can’t walk around and not notice a whole new vibe from just 5 years ago. I wouldn’t dare work anywhere outside of downtown. I love the energy going on down here!
I live about 30 miles outside of the city and I love going downtown whether it’s to the ballpark, the City Museum, or just park and walk around. It’s a great place. BJ if you don’t like going downtown, simply don’t go……better yet, move away. Don’t sit there and insult those of us who find the good in places/things. Your negativity is a real downer.
This restaurant will be a great addition to downtown.
If you think downtown is not “middle class friendly,” I suggest you take a little time to explore some of the new places that have opened up in recent years. Sure, there are some upscale restaurants like Ruth’s Chris and An American Place, but there are also numerous establishments that are more budget friendly as well. A trip to Crepes in the City, Smoking Joes’s BBQ, Flannery’s or Tigin certainly won’t break the bank. Some places, like J. Bucks for example, will even validate parking. And for those that don’t, parking is actually fairly reasonable downtown (especially when compared to other cities), aside from the lots immediately adjacent to Busch Stadium, and even those are expensive only on game nights.
The amount of negativity towards downtown is amazing to me. People should really be more supportive of our urban core.
You - Thanks Dr. Phil - up yours!!
BJ, sounds like you need one!!!!
I bet you don’t have a friend in the world with all the angry and negativity you have.
Glad to hear it’s back downtown, I will make plans to take my parents on Friday or Saturday night (can’t be a home game though)
BJ, if you weren’t such a brainless fart you would realize that restaurants such as this are located in central business districts because their big business IS business.
Business dinners = big dollars.
And nearly any new business is a welcome addition to downtown, and a small part in making the area more desirable. Do everyone a favor and go to Applebee’s.
