Ruth’s Chris set to open in downtown St. Louis
Ruth’s Chris Steak House is about to return to downtown St. Louis.
In the 1990s, the chain had a restaurant in an interesting basement space in the Court Square building on 11th Street. The new restaurant is scheduled to open Monday in the newly refurbished Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel, on Chestnut Street.
About 100 people will work at the restaurant, where the final touches are being applied this week. Mayor Francis Slay and the seemingly ever-present Fredbird are among those scheduled to be on hand for the ribbon cutting on Monday.
The downtown restaurant will be Ruth’s Chris second in the area. The chain’s other local spot is at Forsyth and Brentwood in Clayton.

I now live in Chicago and I can tell you that the parking rates in St. Louis are a steal. This week, my wife and I went to see a play in downtown Chicago and parked for just over 4 hours. The charge was $38.00. The tickets were $140, so a night on the town, not including dinner was over $175. Went I come back to St. Louis, I am amazed at the change in the last 15 years downton. Some good and some bad.
People in this city are SOOO CHEAP! I laughed my A** off at whoever said downtown isn’t middle class friendly! St. Louis has one of the cheapest downtown/urban core’s IN AMERICA! I invite you to take a trip out east and then tell me what you think…You would probably cry if you went to New York or DC. It’s all about the market…and an increase in prices, driven by an increase in demand is the mark of a successful city. I hope downtown gets a HELL of a lot more expensive as it will only be the result of money flowing back into the city. We need more Ruths Chris’ and less TGI Friday’s and people like BJ, then downtown will have some class
I have to put my two cents in. Three years ago, we moved to St. Louis and purchased a beautiful home in South City. The surrounding homes are in a $300k to $2m price range. We love shopping downtown and we never have the huge traffic jams experienced in the burbs. We took a visiting friend to the Galeria in Clayton a few weeks ago, at her request, and while we were there, two ladies were shopping and pushing a baby stroller. When I looked down to see the baby, there was a dog in the stroller. No baby. We laughed so hard. We will stay shopping downtown where the real people shop.
The Galleria is in Richmond Heights.
<<BJ: Why don’t you open your #$@%^&$ eyes you maniac. We’re talking about parking to eat at a restaurant you dolt, not a professional sports event which are always expensive to park at within a block or two. Park at City Hall four blocks away and it’s usually $5 bucks. The 5,000 parking meters are around $1 dollar per hour until 7 when they are free. Having said all that…….please stay home and continue looking for a job that you don’t need to interview for….we don’t need or want you anywhere in the City, especially downtown. Stay on your couch with your mac ‘n’ cheese. I’m sorry I shouldn’t denegrate mac’n'chesse like that.
I guess there will not be a lot of Indians (dot not feather) eating there.
On the other hand, why didn’t they open it in the new buildings at Ballpark Village? oh never mind…..
Why are people on here so negative?????????
Thank you all for reminding me why St. Louis is the huge POS it is. It all starts with the people. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Pathetic losers making useless comments. BTW……Thanks for another term.
Are you the real Frances Slay?
Hey,can you get a quarter pound-er with cheese there?
