Ruth’s Chris Steak House is about to return to downtown St. Louis.

In the 1990s, the chain had a restaurant in an interesting basement space in the Court Square building on 11th Street. The new restaurant is scheduled to open Monday in the newly refurbished Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel, on Chestnut Street.

About 100 people will work at the restaurant, where the final touches are being applied this week. Mayor Francis Slay and the seemingly ever-present Fredbird are among those scheduled to be on hand for the ribbon cutting on Monday.

The downtown restaurant will be Ruth’s Chris second in the area. The chain’s other local spot is at Forsyth and Brentwood in Clayton.

don’t go to hotels for restaurants. they tend to be more expensive than stand alone food purveyors.

Apparently there are people who want to complain and bad mouth downtown no matter what happens.

Obviously one new steakhouse isn’t going to ’save’ downtown, and obviously there is more work to do. DUH! We know this.

All that’s being said is this is a step in the right direction.

Not enough? Schnucks is opening a downtown store in 3 months. A new charter high school will open in a year or so. The Roberts Brothers condo tower will open at about the same time (and it’s already 60-70% filled).

These are sucesses folks. If it’s too much for you to say ‘way to go’ then what’s your point in commenting? Seriously. People are trying so hard to make a go of downtown and actually SUCCEEDING, and you’re spitting in their eye. Why?

Really; I want to know.

I’ll answer tyour question about the naysayers. They are LOOSERS. I really think people like BJ think it is COOL to come on there and bash thier city. These type of people are the ones that hold the region back, nothing else. St. Louis has a very central location, great transportation advantages, great arcititecture, great institutions of higher learning, and many advantages which should make it a world class city. The problem is there is a group of people who, for god knows what reason, have decided to bash the inner city and sit there in the County and St. Charles and act like they are so much better than everyone, while the inner city decays. What these morons don’t understand, ist that without a vital, energetic urban core, the type of people who start business, are highly educated and young, will continue to avoid St. Louis and it’s economy will fail. You can’t keep moving west forever, and eventually EVERYWHERE in St. Louis will be like the east side. The only way to avaoid this ewould be to unite as a region and pour money into the Urban core. This is why a City-county merger would be the BEST thing to ever happen to St. Louis. Not just because of the savings that will be realized by the econmies of scale of such a move, but more importantly the phsycological effect that it would have in making people not think as a county or webster, or kirkwood or clayton resident, but as a ST LOUISAN. The negative posters that frequent this board thionk they have it all figured out, as if they are the high and mighty of St. Louis. But the problems that these idiots bitch about, are caused by thier complete lack of pride in thier town. If they would leave St. Louis, the whole region would be better off.

Excellent post extlinchi !!! I am a born and bred St Louisan who has never lived in the city-though most of my life in close in suburbs. I realize that we must have a strong downtown-unlike some ignorant St Charles types (ot all are lke that by the way). Once we were on vacation in Branson with the family and once old gas bag -when asked where they are from said St Charles-we of course said it correctly-St Louis. Does anybody in the world know where St Charles MO is ? or even care ? That snotty attitude makes we want to puke! ANyway-I agree the people like BJ need to move out of the area-but I doubt it will happen-he’ll have to move out of his Mommy’s basement first!!

Just remember, the complainers are the ones who live in Franklin and Jeff Counties and bitched when sliders went up 3 cents each.

Holy S**t! WC’s went up .03????

If people didn’t move out of the city for safer neighborhoods, this wouldn’t have happened!
